Explosion proof mobile phone for Thailand and Map Ta Phut

A Zone 1 and Zone 21 handset for the people inside the Thai petrochemical cluster: shift operators on the Map Ta Phut crackers, reliability engineers at Sriracha, jetty and tank farm crews along the Rayong coast, and the safety and IT departments that rule on what passes a gate. It is pre-launch, so what a Thai buyer takes today is the specification and a place in the certification queue. Often searched for as an “explosion proof phone”, the IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety as its protection concept.

Where it works · Thailand

Where it is designed to work in Thailand

Thailand keeps almost all of its heavy hazardous area work inside one corridor. Map Ta Phut in Rayong is the petrochemical centre of gravity, Sriracha in Chonburi holds the refining weight, and the Eastern Economic Corridor stretches the same belt across Rayong, Chonburi and Chachoengsao. The Gulf adds the offshore side.

Operators and contractors such as PTT Global Chemical, SCG Chemicals and IRPC need an explosion proof mobile phone they can carry into classified areas at Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Rayong industrial estates and Sriracha, Chonburi. The IS-04Z1 is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 duty there.

Built for Thai operating conditions

Everything below is design intent measured against what a Thai plant does to a handset. Marking and ambient range are fixed by certification, not by this page.

For evaluators in Thailand, the IS-04Z1 explosion proof mobile phone is designed around these points: Heat that never breaks, then the rainy season; Gas group IIC across the cluster; Polymer dust beside hydrocarbon vapour; A Thai reading workforce; Long shifts and gate discipline.

Heat that never breaks, then the rainy season

Rayong stays warm and humid all year and takes the southwest monsoon from May, so sealing must survive a downpour on an open pipe rack as often as a hot afternoon on a cracker structure. IP68 sealing and a rugged build are the design floor; the certificate ambient range is the compliance figure.

Gas group IIC across the cluster

Hydrogen at the reformers and hydrotreaters, ethylene through the cracker network, acetylene in maintenance work — all inside the same estates. A handset rated only to IIB is unusable across much of Map Ta Phut, hence the Ex ib IIC target.

Polymer dust beside hydrocarbon vapour

Polyethylene and polypropylene powder, catalyst loading and additive blending put Zone 21 dust into the same plant as Zone 1 vapour. One specification covers both, rather than issuing two devices.

A Thai reading workforce

Operators, technicians and contractor crews work in Thai; the drawings and procedures behind them are often English. Android 16 carries both on one hardware build, so a plant issues a single device, a single managed app list and a manual the crew actually reads.

Long shifts and gate discipline

Estate passes are issued for a shift, not a task, and leaving a classified area to charge means clearing a gate twice. The 4,000 mAh battery is sized for a full shift with the radio app, the 50 MP camera and four constellation GNSS running.

Approvals in Thailand

Certification programme ahead of Q4 2026 launch.

Thai hazardous area practice references the TIS standards administered by TISI, with factory safety enforced by the Department of Industrial Works, and the technical evidence underneath is an IECEx Certificate of Conformity. A handset separately needs NBTC type approval, and an estate under IEAT adds its own permit regime. All of it is in progress.

What your HSE and procurement teams will ask for.

What a Thai plant engineer and a safety officer will ask to see is the certificate, the marking string and the schedule behind them, and the honest position is that none of them is issued yet. Thai practice references the TIS standards administered by the Thai Industrial Standards Institute under the Ministry of Industry, while factory operation and safety sit with the Department of Industrial Works. The technical evidence underneath is an IECEx Certificate of Conformity, since the Thai treatment of explosive atmospheres follows the international IEC 60079 series rather than a separate national protection concept. Where a plant stands inside an estate run by the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, the estate layers its own permit and contractor access regime over that — and at Map Ta Phut it is often the layer that really governs what a technician carries past a gate.

The second route is radio and import. A handset is radio equipment, so it needs type approval from the NBTC before it can be sold or put into service in Thailand, and that approval is filed against a legal entity in country rather than the manufacturer abroad. Hence the Thai partner: one entity to hold the approval, import the fleet and keep spares on the ground. Above both routes sits the operator. As in Malaysia and across the Gulf, two timelines run in parallel — national conformity, and the operator’s own engineering and telecoms review. The second is what decides whether a phone reaches the work front, and a PTT group or SCG package will review the device itself whatever the national file says.

Use cases · Thailand

Where the IS-04Z1 explosion proof mobile phone goes to work.

Typical Zone 1 and Zone 21 duty for the IS-04Z1 explosion proof mobile phone in Thailand includes: Shutdown season inside Map Ta Phut; Operator rounds at Sriracha; Receiving terminal and gas separation work; Gauging and loading at the Rayong and Laem Chabang jetties.

Petrochemicals01

Shutdown season inside Map Ta Phut

Turnarounds across the estate overlap, and a contractor crew inside a classified area works on a pass with a fixed window. Permit app, plant directory and camera on one intrinsically safe handset cuts what is signed out at the gate and reconciled at the end of the shift.

Refining02

Operator rounds at Sriracha

A round is a sequence of readings, valve checks and observations, and a defect loses value the longer it takes to describe accurately. A photograph attached to the notification at the fault beats a description typed from memory an hour later.

LNG and gas03

Receiving terminal and gas separation work

Regasification, tank operations and jetty transfers run continuously with small crews spread over a large plot. Keeping the operator reachable at the work front, with a position fix on the record, does more than a radio and a camera carried separately.

Terminals and ports04

Gauging and loading at the Rayong and Laem Chabang jetties

Bulk storage, chemical berths and road loading gantries gauge, sample and transfer around the clock inside classified areas. A level, a temperature and a seal number captured where the work happens keeps the paperwork and the tank in agreement.

How to buy · Thailand

How to evaluate and buy in Thailand

Certification is unfinished, so the workable Thai sequence is: specify now, evaluate when units are released, buy when the documents exist.

  1. 01

Send us the plant and the classification

Send the zone, gas group, temperature class and ambient range off your classification drawing, and say whether the fleet also has to go offshore in the Gulf. That is enough for us to say where certification stands against it.

  2. 02

Take the datasheet and the certification schedule

You get the datasheet plus a written certification schedule — what is running, its scope and the expected order — shaped for a Thai tender or an operator vendor pack.

  3. 03

    Book an evaluation unit

Evaluation units are placed once certification allows, starting in safe areas on your own network and MDM. A week with a shift crew answers what no specification comparison can.

  4. 04

    Supply through a Thai partner

Type approval and importation sit with a company registered in Thailand, so volume supply runs through a Thai partner holding the approval and stocking spares locally. Pre-launch pricing is quoted on request against quantity and configuration.

Questions · Thailand

Frequently asked questions

Asking about a site in Thailand?

Send your site, zone and gas group, and we will answer for your plant rather than in general.

Ask about Thailand →
Is the IS-04Z1 approved for hazardous areas in Thailand today?

No. It is pre-launch and every certification, IECEx and ATEX included, is still running ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. Nothing should enter a classified area before the Certificate of Conformity covering it is issued.

Is this a flameproof phone or an intrinsically safe one?

Thai sites use flameproof loosely for anything usable in a classified area, but the concepts differ. Flameproof is Ex d, an enclosure built to contain an explosion inside itself. This device targets Ex ib, the intrinsically safe concept, where available energy is held below anything that could ignite the atmosphere at all.

What is the explosion proof phone price in Thailand?

None is published, and putting a figure against a device whose certification is unfinished would mislead you. Pre-launch pricing is given on request against a stated quantity and configuration, and the landed cost of a compliant unit carries the NBTC work and the import route with it.

Does Thailand accept IECEx certification, or is a separate Thai Ex certificate needed?

Thai practice references the TIS standards administered by TISI, and those follow the international IEC 60079 series, so an IECEx Certificate of Conformity is the evidence a plant and its electrical authority work from. Your operator or estate may add review on top of it.

Does the phone need NBTC approval before we can use it?

Yes. It is radio equipment, so NBTC type approval is required before it can be sold or put into service in Thailand, and it is held by an entity in country. That sits inside the launch schedule.

What zone and what marking does it target?

Gas and dust together, Zone 1 and Zone 21, against an ATEX marking target of II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. A NEC 500 Class I Division 1 route runs alongside, for Thai packages written to the American code.

Will it get us through the gate at Map Ta Phut?

National paperwork opens that question rather than closing it. An IEAT estate runs its own permit and contractor access regime, and each operator inside it runs an equipment review of its own, so allow time for a site listing as well as for certification.

Can it pair with our gas detectors, and does it run in Thai?

Bluetooth pairing with portable gas detectors is part of the design, and the interface, managed app list and manual set all run in Thai and English on one hardware build, so a mixed company and contractor crew can be issued the same device.

Who will handle warranty, repair and battery replacement?

The Thai partner SAMS is appointing. Ex equipment may only be repaired by a workshop recognised to do it. Open an intrinsically safe handset in an ordinary phone shop and its certification is void.
