Refining, not cracking, is what Sriracha does. This coastal strip north of Pattaya carries Thailand's largest concentration of crude processing: Thai Oil with its aromatics and lube base oil businesses, the Bangchak refinery that ran for decades under the Esso name, the tank farms feeding both, and the jetties and offshore mooring that land the crude. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is an ex phone made for that kind of plant, and it has not launched. A reviewer gets the datasheet and the certification schedule today, nothing stronger. Two refineries, their utilities and their marine front sit within a few kilometres of one another here, inside the Eastern Economic Corridor. Where a plot falls inside a designated estate, the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand regime governs access above whatever the operator requires; elsewhere the operator's own permit rules stand alone.
Sriracha is an hour from Map Ta Phut and a different problem. Crude units, hydroprocessing and marine transfer throw up their own recurring hazards, and those are what a Thai Oil or Bangchak reviewer holds a portable device against.
H2S appears wherever sulphur leaves the crude, so nobody walks a hydrotreater or a sulphur block without a personal detector. Bluetooth pairing lets that detector's alarm travel with the man instead of sitting unread on his belt, and both instruments must be certified for the same area.
Reformer and hydrocracker loops put hydrogen at pressure across the site, and that alone makes group IIC the only sensible target. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4, the line an instrument engineer checks before anything else on the sheet.
Furnace decks and hot piping make the temperature class a live question here rather than a formality. T4 is a surface-temperature limit assessed by the certification body — not something we assert about our own equipment.
Old units come down for weeks and the work is welding, blinding and vessel entry. Permits multiply, the gas-test record has to reach the right vessel, and EMM enrolment lets a plant push its own camera policy onto contractor devices for the job and withdraw it afterwards.
Jetty manifolds and an SPM are where the plant stops being reachable on foot. Four-constellation GNSS and a 4,000 mAh cell count for more on a berth or a support boat than inside the fence, where a landmark and a socket are never far.
Chonburi humidity does not shut a handset down; it works inside one over months and corrodes what it finds, and Gulf salt at the jetties speeds that up. IP68 sealing and a rugged build answer that, as environmental ratings sitting beside the Ex marking, never replacing it.
Sour service rounds are walked with a detector already clipped on. Pairing it to the handset puts the reading, the photograph of a weeping fitting and the call to the panel on one item, so an operator signs out two things in the morning rather than four.
In a major turnaround the constraint is rarely labour; it is how fast a permit, a gas test and an isolation confirmation move between the field and the permit office. A device the crews carry into the unit removes the walk between those steps.
A loading master needs the vessel, the control room and the shore tank figures at once, standing at a manifold classified along its full length. Losing that conversation to a walk back to the office is what costs a berth slot.
Inspection here is a photographic record as much as a written one: seal condition, heater tube discoloration, damaged cladding on a corrosion-under-insulation loop. A 50 MP camera cleared for the area attaches evidence to the finding while the inspector still stands at it.
No. The IS-04Z1 has not launched and its ATEX and IECEx certification is still running, with NEC 500 Class I Division 1 pursued in parallel, ahead of Q4 2026. Nothing goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. Datasheets and safe-area evaluation handsets are what we can offer now.
There is no published figure. Pricing follows certification, because a unit price and a lead time only mean something once the product they describe is certified — anyone quoting firm numbers today is committing to what they cannot control. We issue indicative pre-launch pricing in writing against a quantity and a site.
That is what the group IIC target covers. Hydrogen sits at the hardest end of the gas group scale, and a reformer or hydrocracker area rules out a IIB device on that basis alone. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4; the certificate, when it issues, confirms it.
Intrinsic safety. A flameproof design, marked Ex d, accepts that ignition may occur and builds an enclosure heavy enough to contain it. Ex ib instead limits the energy in every circuit so there is nothing to ignite with — the practical concept for something carried all shift.
Their engineering review makes that call, working from certificates rather than a supplier's description. Where a plot also falls under the IEAT regime, estate access is a separate gate above it. Neither can be shortcut, which is why we publish a schedule instead of a claim.
Bluetooth pairing with personal gas detectors is part of the design, so an alarm can be logged, timestamped and sent to the control room without a handwritten note. Detector and handset each keep their own certification; pairing does not merge the two approvals.
It goes back through SAMS or the Thai partner it is appointing. Opening a certified Ex device in an ordinary phone workshop invalidates the certification that let it into the unit, so repair stays in a controlled channel with spares held near the eastern seaboard.
