Frequently asked questions
Straight answers on certification status, zones and availability for the IS-04Z1 while it is pre-launch.
Still have a question?
Talk to the team building the device and running its certification.
Ask our team info@sams-mobile.comIs the IS-04Z1 certified yet?
No. The device is pre-launch and IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 Class I Division 1 are all in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. Nothing will be supplied into a classified area before the certificate covering that area exists.
Which zones is it designed for?
Zone 1 and Zone 21, which covers flammable gas and vapour and combustible dust. The ATEX marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. Zone 0 is not targeted.
What does II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4 actually mean?
Equipment group II is surface industry rather than mining. Category 2 G is gas atmospheres where an explosive atmosphere is likely in normal operation, which is Zone 1. Ex ib is intrinsic safety at the highest protection level, IIC is the most demanding gas group including hydrogen and acetylene, and T4 caps the maximum surface temperature at 135 degrees Celsius. It is a target, not a marking we hold today.
Is it an explosion proof phone or an intrinsically safe one?
Strictly, intrinsically safe. Explosion proof and flameproof describe the Ex d concept, where an enclosure contains an ignition. Buyers use all three terms for the same shopping trip, so we answer to them, but the protection concept being certified is Ex ib.
Can I see full dimensions, weight and display size?
Those are to be confirmed at launch and will be published on the datasheet once the design is frozen for certification. We would rather withhold a figure than publish one that changes.
Will it work on 5G?
The published radio specification is 4G LTE, plus Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC. Anything beyond that is to be confirmed at launch.
How do I get one to evaluate?
Register interest with your site, area classification and the operator or contract you work under. We will send the datasheet and the certification schedule, and tell you what evaluation units are available and when. Pre-launch pricing is on request; we do not publish prices or quote lead times while certification is running.
