Refineries, gas separation and LNG across Thailand
Thai Oil's Sriracha refinery is described by the company as a 275,000 barrels a day complex, and reports put IRPC's Rayong refinery at about 215,000, Star Petroleum Refining's Map Ta Phut refinery at about 175,000, and the Bangchak Sriracha and Phra Khanong refineries at roughly 174,000 and 120,000. Gas arrives from the Gulf of Thailand, is processed at PTT's gas separation plants at Map Ta Phut, where ethane, propane and LPG are recovered for the crackers, and LNG is landed at the two PTT LNG terminals there, the first commissioned in 2011 and the second known as Nong Fab. All capacities are press figures and should be checked against operator data.

Cold and pressure in gas plants
Separation plants run at low temperature and high pressure, with leak detection constant. The handset must be an addition to the detector, not a substitute.

Refinery shifts are continuous, gas plants run near unmanned, and terminals run to a ship schedule.
Turnaround seasons
Refinery and gas plant shutdowns pull in hundreds of contractor staff. Console enrolment before the gate, and withdrawal afterwards, keeps control of the estate.
Small crews on large plots
Gas plants and terminals run with small crews spread out, so keeping an operator reachable with a position fix matters more than a bulky radio.
Vendor and equipment approval
We have not verified any operator-specific portable device approval programme, so we do not describe one. Ask each operator's procurement and HSE team for the steps and documents expected with an Ex certificate.

Frequently asked questions
Can refineries buy an explosion proof mobile phone from SAMS today?
No. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch with a Q4 2026 launch, and IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification are in progress. The datasheet and certification schedule are available now.
Are LNG areas group IIA or IIC?
LNG is mainly methane, which is group IIA, but a terminal can also carry hydrogen in specific places. The IIC target covers the strictest case, and the area classification drawings decide each location.
Where do the refinery capacities come from?
From trade press and industry databases, not from the operators. Use each operator's own published capacity for any engineering decision.
