Spray, salt and rain during transfer
Work carries on through the monsoon, and a transfer cannot stop because it is raining. IP68 sealing and rugged build answer water and salt; the Ex marking decides entry.
Thailand's liquid bulk, LPG and LNG move through a handful of ports on the eastern seaboard, and an explosion proof mobile phone for Thailand's terminals has to work on jetties, in tank farms and at loading arms. This page covers the sector across Map Ta Phut, Sriracha and Laem Chabang. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21; it is pre-launch and certification is in progress. The IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety rather than a flameproof enclosure.

Map Ta Phut Industrial Port in Rayong is administered by the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand and is described as the country's largest industrial port. Port listings name liquid bulk terminals operated by Map Ta Phut Tank Terminal, Rayong Refinery, Star Petroleum Refining, Thai Tank Terminal (reported as a PTT Global Chemical and Vopak partnership) and PTTCH. IEAT's Phase 3 project, on about 1,000 rai with a 2,200 metre pier and a 16 metre channel, has six berths: two liquid cargo, three gas carrier and one general cargo. Laem Chabang, owned by the Port Authority of Thailand, is mostly a container port, but its Phase 3 includes Terminal F, awarded to a consortium of Gulf Energy, PTT Tank Terminal and CHEC. Sriracha's refinery jetties sit between the two.
Exposure is the issue: rain, spray and a ship moving at the other end.

A tank can hold a vegetable oil one quarter and a solvent the next. The marking target of II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4 is set to the worst case a berth is licensed to handle.
Port photography is a security and customs question as well as a safety one. A camera that the operator's console can switch off per site meets both.
A 2,200 metre pier gives few landmarks. Four-constellation GNSS puts a fix on the transfer record.
A terminal works to a ship schedule, with contractors and surveyors on the same berth in an afternoon.
Work arrives with the vessel: gauging, hose connection, sampling and surveyor inspection in a few hours. A handset that carries the transfer checklist and photographs reduces the paperwork reconciled afterwards.
Terminal staff, ship crew, surveyors and hauliers share a jetty, so policy should follow the enrolled device and not the person.
We have not verified a published approval scheme for portable devices at these terminals, so we do not describe one. Ask each terminal operator and IEAT or the Port Authority for site access rules and the documents expected alongside the Ex certificate.
TISI, the Department of Industrial Works and NBTC apply to the device on top of the IECEx evidence, and all three are in progress.
A terminal operator gauges a tank, connects an arm and photographs the connection. The record carries a position fix and time without a safe-area stop.
An inspector walks a bunded tank farm and attaches photographs to defects. Site pages that cover the plants behind the berths are Map Ta Phut and Sriracha.
A port surveyor checks segregation and leaks in dangerous goods stacks. The Laem Chabang page covers the port in detail.
No. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch with a Q4 2026 launch, and IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification are in progress. The datasheet and certification schedule are available now.
Where the area classification includes gas, yes. LNG is mainly methane (group IIA); the IIC design target covers the strictest case and the classification drawings decide each location.
IEAT administers the port and estate, and each terminal operator adds its own rules. A device usually has to clear both.
Tell us the site, the zone and gas group, and roughly how many handsets. The SAMS team replies by email with the datasheet and the certification schedule for Thailand. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and certification is in progress, so there is no list price yet; indicative pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Tell us the zone, gas group and operator. We will send the datasheet and the certification schedule for your market.
