Gas and dust in the same plant
The IS-04Z1 is designed for Zone 1 gas and Zone 21 dust, so one handset covers a route from reactor to bagging.
Thailand's petrochemical industry is concentrated on the Map Ta Phut estate in Rayong, with further plants in nearby estates, and an explosion proof mobile phone for Thailand's petrochemical plants has to cover gas, vapour and polymer dust. This sector page names the operators and the plant types; company pages carry the detail. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21; it is pre-launch and certification is in progress. The IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety rather than a flameproof enclosure.
Launching Q4 2026 · certification programme in progress
Map Ta Phut is described as Thailand's biggest industrial estate, around 180 kilometres east of Bangkok in Rayong. Operators include PTT Global Chemical (olefins, aromatics and derivatives), SCG Chemicals (the ROC and MOC crackers and polyolefin plants), IRPC, HMC Polymers and Star Petroleum Refining, with gas coming from the PTT separation plants nearby. The estate has a documented history that shapes how plants approach safety. In 2009 the courts suspended dozens of projects over health impact assessment, and in May 2012 an explosion at the Bangkok Synthetics butadiene plant killed 12 people, reported as occurring while toluene was being put into a tank. Plant teams there know what a vapour release can do.
A cracker, a solvent tank and a polymer silo are three different hazards. One device has to cope with all three.

Hydrogen and ethylene mean IIB is not enough. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4.
Rayong is humid all year, coastal, and takes the southwest monsoon from May. IP68 sealing and a rugged build are the design floor.
One Android 16 build carries both languages for a mixed Thai and expatriate workforce, so safety prompts and the app list read the same for everyone on a crew, from the operator to the visiting specialist.
Plants share the estate fence, and contractors move between them.
Cracker and polymer stops bring contractor crews to several plants in the same months. A device enrolled to one operator should be re-enrolled, not reused blindly, for the next.
IEAT sets the estate access and each operator sets its own. A handset has to satisfy both.
We have not verified a published petrochemical sector approval scheme for portable devices, so we do not describe one. Ask each operator's procurement and HSE team for the steps and documents expected with an Ex certificate.
TISI, the Department of Industrial Works and NBTC apply on top of the IECEx evidence. All are in progress.
An operator logs readings and photographs a leak in a group IIC area. See PTT Global Chemical.
An inspector records dust housekeeping findings in Zone 21. See SCG Chemicals.
Operators loading a solvent tank record the transfer with a photograph and position.
No. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch with a Q4 2026 launch, and IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification are in progress. The datasheet and certification schedule are available now.
It is a documented event on the estate and plant teams reference it. We cite it from published news reports only to explain why toluene and tank transfer are taken seriously.
The design target is Zone 1 and Zone 21, but the area classification drawings for each plant decide which zone applies where. Contractors moving between plants should confirm the zone at each plant rather than assume the last one applies.
Yes, mostly as a controlled tool. Plants restrict photography near process units, so the sensible setup is a camera that the management console enables for inspection work and disables elsewhere, per site and per contractor group.
Tell us the site, the zone and gas group, and roughly how many handsets. The SAMS team replies by email with the datasheet and the certification schedule for Thailand. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and certification is in progress, so there is no list price yet; indicative pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Tell us the zone, gas group and operator. We will send the datasheet and the certification schedule for your market.
