Samut Prakan lies immediately south-east of Bangkok and is one of Thailand's most heavily industrialised provinces. Bangpoo Industrial Estate, administered by the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, sits at its centre, with other estates and a great many factories scattered outside estate boundaries. Chemicals, plastics and resins are among the main activities. The hazard picture here is small and varied plants, stores and blending halls rather than a few large crackers, which changes what a handset buyer should ask for. A 2021 provincial count recorded about 6,800 registered factories in Samut Prakan, only a small fraction of them inside industrial estates, with plastics and chemicals among the larger groups after metal products and vehicles. Bangpoo Industrial Estate dates from 1977 and has a general industrial zone and an export free zone. Samut Prakan is flat, low-lying, hot and wet, and densely built. The challenge for a handset buyer is as much the diversity of the sites as the environment. The points below are design intent, not certified claims.
Where a single large estate has one regime, Samut Prakan has hundreds of occupiers with their own classification, permit and contractor rules. A handset specification cannot settle any of them. Buyers should expect to take the datasheet and, in time, the certificate to each site's own safety team.
Resins, coatings, solvents and plastics move through the same small buildings, so vapour and dust can occur together. The IS-04Z1 marking target of II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4 is a gas marking that covers the full range, and the Zone 21 dust design target will be confirmed only by the certificate.
The province is low-lying beside the Chao Phraya, and the estate itself runs flood-protection pumping stations. Heat, humidity and monsoon rain from about May test seals. IP68 is the design floor; the certified ambient range, not the sealing, is the compliance figure.
Factories here sit close to housing, and chemical incidents in the province have drawn public attention before. A plant therefore has strong reasons to document the equipment it allows into a classified area, and a handset without a certificate is unlikely to be accepted.
The estate is roughly 37 km from central Bangkok and 25 km from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Support from SAMS and the partner it is appointing should be easier to arrange here than at a remote site, though no response time is promised.
Maintenance, inspection and safety contractors move between sites during a working week. EMM enrolment lets each site's policy go onto the device for the job and be removed afterwards, with Thai and English interfaces on one Android 16 build.
An operator on a resin line records readings, photographs a gasket or a drum label and sends them while still in the zone. A device designed for Zone 1 is meant to avoid the trip to a safe area to write the entry, which in a small plant often means a long walk.
Plastics plants combine dust and process heat in the same building. Zone 21 is a design target here, and the dust marking will depend on the certificate. A single handset type across the line would simplify the issuing of devices if that marking is confirmed.
Stores holding solvents, acids and other chemicals need regular checks of drums, bunds and labels. A sealed, managed handset lets a store keeper photograph and log a defect against a location, subject to the store's classification and its own camera rules.
Contractors who audit or maintain equipment at many plants face a different rule set at each gate. A device that the host site's console can control during the visit, then release, means the contractor is not carrying personal equipment into an area that the host cannot govern.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 Class I Division 1 certification is in progress with TÜV in Germany ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. The datasheet, the schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Not as such. IEAT administers the estate, while each occupier sets its own classification and device rules, and Thai practice references TIS standards administered by TISI, with factory safety under the Department of Industrial Works. A handset also needs NBTC radio approval. Confirm the route with the occupier and the authorities concerned.
It depends on the substances present, and the occupier's classification drawing decides. Many solvents are group IIA or IIB, and hydrogen or acetylene would need IIC. The IS-04Z1 marking target of Ex ib IIC T4 covers all three, so one device suits plants with mixed services.
SAMS provides support, and the partner it is appointing would be the first line in Thailand. Samut Prakan is near Bangkok, so access should be simpler than at remote sites, but a buyer should ask how loan units and return-for-repair are handled and get the answer in writing.
Technically, a managed handset can be enrolled under each host site's policy in turn, but permission to carry it into a classified area belongs to each site. Each occupier needs to see the certificate and accept the marking against its own area classification before the device is used there.
