Pluak Daeng is an industrial estate district in north-western Rayong, a long way from the crackers and refineries of Map Ta Phut. Its estates are known for automotive, electronics and plastics, yet chemical and polymer producers also have plants there. Hazardous areas exist, but they are pockets inside large safe factories rather than a whole classified estate. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is an ex phone designed for those pockets. It is pre-launch: a datasheet and a certification programme today, not a certificate.

The district holds the Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate (Rayong), operated by Hemaraj and listed by the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, plus WHA-branded estates on the same road corridor. The IEAT listing places the estate on Highway 331, about 27 km from Laem Chabang and about 51 km from the Map Ta Phut industrial port. That position suits assembly and export, so classified work is the minority.
This is inland, flat, hot and busy with shift traffic. The handset question is less about extreme process hazards and more about carrying one controlled device between safe halls and classified rooms.
A plant here may have one solvent store, one powder hall or one paint line among hundreds of metres of ordinary production floor. A technician who must enter that room needs a handset designed for Zone 1 or Zone 21. The same device then works in the safe areas too, avoiding a second phone.
Where polymer, additive or superabsorbent powder is handled, combustible dust is a more realistic concern than a gas cloud. The design target covers Zone 21 as well as Zone 1. Whether a room is classified is the operator's call, taken from its dust hazard assessment, and the handset follows that decision.
Where a plant stores solvents or hydrogen-bearing gases, the gas group on the area drawing decides what is allowed in. The marking target of II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4 is aimed at the strictest group so a device is not turned away at one door.
The district is warm and humid all year and takes the southwest monsoon from about May. Loading yards, tank pads and gas cylinder cages are open to rain. IP68 sealing and a rugged build are aimed at water, dust and washdown, while the certificate fixes the ambient range once it is issued.
A contractor entering an estate passes the estate's own security before reaching the plant's gate and permit system. Which authority governs a plot, the estate operator, IEAT or the plant alone, is worth confirming. A device enrolled before arrival makes the second gate quicker to clear.
Estates in this corridor host plants of many parent companies and nationalities, so supervisors, engineers and operators may not share a first language. Android 16 carries multiple languages on one build, and a managed app list gives every crew the same permit and inspection tools.
An inspector checking dust extraction, filters and housekeeping in a polymer or superabsorbent powder hall has to record findings against a room the operator has classified. One handset that is designed for dust and gas zones carries photographs, location and notes at the point of inspection rather than from a bench later.
A coating line and its mixing room concentrate flammable liquids in a small footprint. An HSE auditor checking ventilation, bonding and storage limits can photograph a label or a gauge at the spot and attach it to the audit item, without leaving the zone to find a safe-area terminal.
Installation firms arrive for a line change or a plant stop and enter classified rooms on a permit. EMM enrolment lets the plant push its application and camera policy to the contractor's handset for that job, then withdraw it, which beats collecting and re-issuing personal phones at the gate.
Boiler houses, generator sets and fuel stores have a few classified spots among plain mechanical rooms. An operator walking the route records readings and a position fix for each. A 4,000 mAh battery covers a long shift without a charging trip to a safe area.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 Class I Division 1 certification, with TÜV in Germany, is still in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
None is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
The plant's own engineering and HSE review decides for its site, working from the area classification and the certificate. TISI, the Department of Industrial Works and NBTC are covered on the Thailand overview page, and an estate operator or IEAT may add access rules. Ask each plant in writing, because approval at one does not transfer to another.
Usually not for the whole factory. Most floor space in an assembly or electronics plant has no classified area. The need appears where a plant has a solvent store, powder handling or a gas room. Your competent person's area classification tells you which rooms count, and the handset is a design target until a certificate exists.
A phone holding an Ex certificate cannot be opened by a general phone workshop without invalidating it. Battery replacement and repair would run through SAMS and the partner it is appointing in Thailand. That channel is not in place yet, and the terms will be published before any fleet purchase is expected.
Company statements about plants change over time, and a name appears here only where a published source places it at the estate. Whether a plant still operates a given line, or has a classified area at all, is for you to confirm with that operator before you plan any equipment around it.
