High-altitude mineral dust
Copper concentrator operations above 3,000 metres generate persistent fine dust in thin, dry air. The device is designed for Zone 21 as well as Zone 1, and IP68 sealing is what keeps it working through a full shift.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe handset for people who cross into classified areas in Peru every shift: copper mine and concentrator operators, Camisea gas-field crews, refinery engineers, and the HSE and telecoms teams who equip them. It is pre-launch, so what you can have today is the datasheet, the certification schedule and an evaluation unit.
Launching Q4 2026 · IECEx and INACAL programme in progress
Peru’s classified-area work runs from the high-altitude copper belt in the south through the Camisea gas fields in the Amazon foothills to the coastal refineries.
Operators and contractors such as Southern Copper Corporation, Compañía Minera Antamina and Cerro Verde need an explosion proof mobile phone they can carry into classified areas at Cuajone / Toquepala, Antamina and Cerro Verde. The IS-04Z1 is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 duty there.
Peru runs classified-area operations across three very different environments — high-altitude desert mining, Amazon rainforest gas fields and coastal refining. These are the points a Peruvian evaluator presses on, and how the design answers them.
For evaluators in Peru, the IS-04Z1 explosion proof mobile phone is designed around these points: High-altitude mineral dust; Amazon humidity at Camisea; Altitude and UV exposure; A battery sized for remote shifts; Spanish and English on one build.
Copper concentrator operations above 3,000 metres generate persistent fine dust in thin, dry air. The device is designed for Zone 21 as well as Zone 1, and IP68 sealing is what keeps it working through a full shift.
Camisea’s gas fields sit in tropical rainforest, the opposite environment from the southern mining belt. rugged build is specified for both extremes rather than one.
Many mine sites sit well above 4,000 metres with intense UV and large temperature swings. A display built for outdoor use and rugged sealing are specified with that in mind.
Distances at an open-pit mine or a jungle gas plant are real, and there is no recharging point inside a classified area. The 4,000 mAh cell is specified for a full shift.
Peruvian operations run with local and international technical staff. Android 16 carries both interface languages on the same handset.
IECEx certification is the technical basis Peruvian operators work from. Instituto Nacional de Calidad (INACAL) conformity marking is being pursued alongside launch.
Conformity in Peru runs through the Instituto Nacional de Calidad (INACAL) and is overseen for the energy and mining sector by OSINERGMIN, the Organismo Supervisor de la Inversión en Energía y Minería. For hazardous-area equipment the technical evidence behind that conformity is an IECEx Certificate of Conformity, and because this product is a phone it also needs MTC (Ministerio de Transportes y Comunicaciones) type approval for the radio. None of the three is finished yet.
Getting past the mine or plant gate is a separate exercise. Southern Copper, Antamina and the other major operators each run their own vendor-registration and engineering-approval process for equipment entering a classified area, and supply is normally expected to run through a Peruvian-registered partner. A device can be fully INACAL-cleared and still be unlisted on an operator’s own equipment register, so plan for two timelines rather than one.
Typical Zone 1 and Zone 21 duty for the IS-04Z1 explosion proof mobile phone in Peru includes: Concentrator rounds at Antamina and Cerro Verde; Camisea gas field operations; Turnaround work at Talara; Las Bambas and the southern copper corridor.
An operator walking a concentrator round at altitude needs to log a reading, photograph equipment and reach the control room across a large industrial footprint. Four-constellation GNSS puts a position on record where distances are measured in kilometres.
Camisea’s gas plants sit inside Zone 1 gas atmospheres in a humid Amazon environment, a sharp contrast to the dry southern mining belt. Ex ib IIC T4 intrinsic safety and rugged build are specified for both.
A refinery turnaround multiplies contractor traffic and permit volume into a short window. One enrolled handset carrying the permit app, the site directory and the camera cuts what every crew signs out.
Las Bambas and the wider southern mining corridor depend on long overland logistics runs. A device with full-shift battery life and rugged sealing stays in service between planned resupply.
The IS-04Z1 launches in Q4 2026. None of these steps needs a purchase order, and they are ordered so that your approvals and our certification run in parallel.
Give us the zone, gas or dust group and temperature class for the areas a device would enter, plus the operator whose approval you work under. That is enough for us to say plainly where certification stands against your requirement.
You receive the full specification and a written list of the certifications in progress with target dates. An HSE officer can start an equipment selection justification with it, and procurement can open a vendor file.
Evaluation units will be offered to Peruvian operators and contractors for handling and MDM trials in safe areas, moving to classified-area pilots once the certificate exists.
Vendor-registration processes at the major mining and gas operators favour a locally registered supplier who can hold the INACAL documentation and carry spares. Evaluation quantities can be supplied directly while that channel is appointed.
Send your site, zone and gas group, and we will answer for your plant rather than in general.
Ask about Peru →Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and every certification behind it, including IECEx, ATEX and the INACAL conformity route, is still in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. What exists today is the datasheet, the certification schedule and a place in the evaluation programme.
Yes. The Zone 1 / Zone 21, Ex ib IIC T4 specification is designed to cover the combustible dust found in copper concentrator operations as well as the gas atmospheres at sites like Camisea.
We do not publish one. Until certification completes there is no list price, and pre-launch pricing is available on request against a stated quantity and site.
It is designed to, with rugged build and IP68 sealing behind it. The certificate’s temperature class is the number to check against your specific site conditions.
That decision belongs to each operator and follows the certificates rather than preceding them. The IECEx certificate is the evidence their engineering review is built on.
Yes. Android 16 runs the interface in Spanish or English on the same handset and the user manual will be issued in both.
Tell us the site, the zone and gas group, and roughly how many handsets. The SAMS team replies by email with the datasheet and the certification schedule for Peru. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and certification is in progress, so there is no list price yet; indicative pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
SAMS is appointing Peruvian safety and instrumentation distributors who already hold major mining or energy operator vendor numbers and can carry spares near Lima or the southern mining corridor. Tell us which operators you are registered with.
