Rainforest humidity and heat
Camisea's fields are in the Amazon foothills, hot and wet for most of the year. IP68 sealing is relevant to humidity, rain and spray, and a battery sized for a shift matters when recharging is far away.
Peru's oil and gas industry runs from the Camisea gas fields in the Cusco Amazon to the processing plant, the coast and the refineries. This page is about where an explosion proof mobile phone is relevant across that chain in Peru, with the Petroperú Talara refinery covered separately on its own page, and what operators and contractors are likely to ask of a handset supplier. The IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety rather than a flameproof enclosure.
Launching Q4 2026 · IECEx programme in progress
Camisea is the centre of the sector. A consortium operated by Pluspetrol holds Blocks 88 and 56, gas is carried from the jungle to the Malvinas processing plant near the fields, and liquids go to Pluspetrol's fractionation plant and marine terminal at Pisco, where products such as naphtha, propane, butane and diesel are extracted. Gas also goes by pipeline towards the coast and to the Peru LNG liquefaction plant at Pampa Melchorita, which has been operated by Hunt Oil with partners. The result is a chain with very different working conditions at each end: jungle wellpads and a processing plant reached by river and air, a pipeline corridor, a coastal fractionation site and an LNG terminal. Downstream, refining is dominated by Petroperú, and the Talara basin on the north coast has its own oil operators. Everything here is Zone 1 or Zone 2 gas, which suits a handset marked Ex ib IIC T4.
The two ends of the Camisea chain could hardly be more different: rainforest humidity at the fields, desert coast at Pisco and Melchorita. The IS-04Z1 is designed for Zone 1 and has IP68 sealing; certification is in progress and no certificate has yet been issued.

Equipment reaches the fields by river or by air. A failed handset cannot be swapped in an hour, so durability, spares and distributor support are part of the evaluation.
Natural gas, propane, butane and naphtha belong to different gas groups, and LNG adds low-temperature handling. The certificate and the site's own classification define where the device is allowed.
Consortium members and contractors bring international practice. Documentation that is complete, in Spanish and English, makes cross-company evaluation easier.
Desert coast sites add salt and sand to the list. The same handset is intended for both ends, though trials should include a coastal site.
Operators visit wellpads and manifolds, record pressures and photograph faults. A handset for Zone 1 areas replaces a radio and a camera, subject to the operator's classification.
Technicians at the processing and fractionation plants log readings and report leaks. An enrolled handset carries checklists and permits.
Terminal staff coordinate vessels, loading arms and trucks. A managed handset keeps that traffic on a device the operator controls.
The same Zone 1 design target is intended to serve upstream, processing and terminals. The certificate's gas groups and temperature class decide what is allowed at each site.
Parts of an LNG plant are classified for gas, with the exact zones set by its own classification study. A supplier should ask for the area drawings before proposing any equipment.
Pluspetrol is operator of the consortium that holds Blocks 88 and 56, according to published industry sources. Ownership among consortium members has changed over time, so verify with the operator.
Not in classified areas: no certificate has been issued and certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. Evaluation starts with the datasheet and certification schedule.
Tell us the site, the zone and gas group, and roughly how many handsets. The SAMS team replies by email with the datasheet and the certification schedule for Peru. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and certification is in progress, so there is no list price yet; indicative pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Tell us the zone, gas group and operator. We will send the datasheet and the certification schedule for your market.
