Freezing nights and low battery temperature
Night-time temperatures approach freezing, and batteries lose capacity in the cold. The 4,000 mAh cell is specified for a shift, and the operator will want to test it at the site's coldest.
Toromocho, run by Minera Chinalco Peru in the Morococha district of Yauli province, Junín, is a copper mine at roughly 4,500 metres, owned by Aluminum Corporation of China (Chinalco). This page covers where an explosion proof mobile phone is relevant at Toromocho in Peru, from the concentrator to the rail link that takes concentrate to the port of Callao. The IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety rather than a flameproof enclosure.
Launching Q4 2026 · certification and vendor documentation in progress
Toromocho sits in the central Andes, in the Morococha district, and sends its concentrate to Callao by rail; project descriptions say rail is the only practical route from the filtering plant to the port. The concentrator was reported to process about 117,000 tonnes of ore a day, with an expansion programme begun in 2018 aiming at 170,000 tonnes a day, and the plant produces copper concentrate and molybdenum. Chinalco also built Nueva Morococha, a new town of some 3,500 residents costing around US$200 million, so the old town could make way for the mine. The classified areas are those of any large concentrator: dust at crushing and conveying, flotation reagents, a molybdenum circuit and fuel systems. The difference is the altitude, which at 4,500 metres is higher than most large mines operate at anywhere.
At 4,500 metres the conditions are among the hardest in the industry for electronics. Air pressure, cold and ultraviolet all affect battery life, screen readability and the person using the phone. The IS-04Z1 is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 and has IP68 sealing; certification is in progress, and the specifications are design intentions, not certified claims.

At altitude, daylight is harsh and a dim screen is hard to read. Evaluation should include readability in direct sun and with gloves.
The concentrator and conveyors produce persistent dust. IP68 sealing keeps it out, and the Zone 21 design target applies to the areas where combustible dust can form a layer or cloud.
Chinalco's group standards may influence what the Peruvian operator expects to see. Documents in both English and Spanish, with a clear certificate trail, are the useful thing to prepare.
Supply to Junín runs through central Peru, not the southern corridor. Where a distributor holds spares matters, so ask about service routes early.
Operators walk grinding and flotation lines, record readings and photograph faults. A handset suited to classified dust areas replaces a radio, a camera and a clipboard.
Staff loading rail wagons confirm weights, report faults and coordinate with the port. An enrolled handset keeps that traffic on a managed device.
Expansion work brings contractors into operating areas. A managed handset carrying permits and contacts helps the operator control who is in a classified area.
It is among them at roughly 4,500 metres. The point is not the exact figure but that cold, UV and thin air stress a battery and screen more than at lower sites.
Device specifications are given in the datasheet; check the operating temperature range against the site's winter conditions, and confirm the temperature class on the certificate once issued.
No. Both have Chinese state-owned parents but they are separate companies with different commodities, sites and procurement.
Rail loading adds a moving-equipment environment with wagons, locomotives and a port at the far end. It is mainly a coordination and safety matter, with the classified areas inside the plant.
Tell us the site, the zone and gas group, and roughly how many handsets. The SAMS team replies by email with the datasheet and the certification schedule for Peru. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and certification is in progress, so there is no list price yet; indicative pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Tell us the zone, gas group and operator. We will send the datasheet and the certification schedule for your market.
