Peru: rules and approvals
A testing partner reports that Peruvian homologation needs no local laboratory tests or local representative, certificates have unlimited validity, and there are no extra labelling requirements.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe handset for people who cross into classified areas in Peru every shift: copper mine and concentrator operators, Camisea gas-field crews, refinery engineers, and the HSE and telecoms teams who equip them. In 2019 Peru was the world's second-largest producer of copper, silver and zinc, third for lead and eighth for gold, so mining is a major source of hazardous and dusty areas. Distribution partners for Peru are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Peru has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

Type approval for radio equipment in Peru is run by the Ministerio de Transportes y Comunicaciones, MTC, and is based on American FCC standards.
The Camisea gas project in the Cusco Region started operating in August 2004, in a remote forested part of the Amazon Basin on the Urubamba River with a largely Indigenous population.
Shell discovered the Camisea fields in 1986 under blocks 38 and 42, a contract signed in 1981 that covered about 20,000 square kilometres of the southern Ucayali Basin.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Peru. Peru's classified-area work runs from the high-altitude copper belt in the south, including Cuajone, Toquepala, Antamina, Cerro Verde and Las Bambas, to the Camisea gas fields in the Amazon foothills and the Talara refinery on the north coast. Operators classify their own areas, so SAMS supplies no zone drawings.
A distributor for Peru would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.

Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Peru.
At altitude the air is thin and cold, with strong sun and sharp temperature swings, so check the operating temperature range, battery behaviour in cold and any altitude rating on the datasheet. Confirm site limits with the mine operator, who may also restrict where devices can be taken underground.
Yes. Camisea is a remote, forested site in the Amazon Basin, so deliveries and repairs are slow. Plan spare devices, chargers and batteries, and ask the operator or contractor about transport, camp rules, permits and device approval before dispatching equipment.
Android 16 carries both Spanish and English interface languages on the same handset, which suits operations with local and international technical staff. Interface language is a software matter and separate from certification. Check with your IT team which language packs and apps your fleet policy requires.
