Wet work in salt air
Hose connections, sampling and washdowns mean a handset spends its life damp. IP68 sealing and rugged build for humidity and salt fog are what keep it working, and Jebel Ali supplies both conditions every day of the year.
Jebel Ali packs a refinery, one of the largest tank farm clusters in the region, a container and bulk port, a power and desalination complex and a very large free zone into a few square kilometres. This page is for the plant, terminal, marine and HSE people deciding what a technician or a surveyor may carry into any of it.
Launching Q4 2026 · certification in progress
Jebel Ali is the industrial end of Dubai. ENOC’s refinery and its storage and blending operations sit next to independent tank terminals, a bunkering trade that services the port, an aluminium smelter with its own carbon plant and power, a large gas fired power and desalination station, cable and heavy manufacturing, and the free zone with its chemical warehousing and decanting operations. What makes it unusual is the mix of employers: a single classified area can be worked by refinery staff, a terminal contractor, a surveyor and a free zone tenant in the same week, each with its own equipment rules.
Terminal work is repetitive, outdoors and wet: gauging, sampling, connecting and disconnecting, in Gulf humidity with salt off the port and a washdown at the end of it. The device has to survive that, but it also has to be governable, because at Jebel Ali the person carrying it very often does not work for the company that owns the ground.

A surveyor may go from a Zone 1 manifold to a Zone 2 bund to a dust classified carbon area in one visit. The ATEX marking target of II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4 with Zone 1 and Zone 21 coverage is what lets a single issued device follow that route instead of three.
Tank farms are measured in kilometres of pipe track and there is nowhere to charge halfway. A 4,000 mAh battery specified for a full shift, plus a body that never needs opening in the field, is the practical requirement.
Refinery staff, terminal contractors, inspectors and free zone tenants share the same ground. Android 16 with enterprise management means a fleet can be enrolled, restricted, located and wiped centrally, whichever company is holding the unit this month.
NFC reads asset tags on tanks and valves, four constellation GNSS records where a reading was taken, and the 50 MP camera with phase detect autofocus captures the condition. That combination is what turns a round into a record rather than a memory.
Tank gauging, water draws and sampling are done at the tank, and the paperwork is done somewhere else, which is where errors are introduced. A handset that reads the asset tag, records the position and carries the photograph closes that gap without adding a second permitted device to the round.
A bunker transfer is a timed operation across two parties, and a disputed quantity or a damaged coupling has to be evidenced immediately. A device that survives the manifold, holds a call from the berth and sends a photograph while the hose is still connected settles arguments that otherwise run for weeks.
Free zone tenants run solvent stores and decanting bays that are classified even though the warehouse around them is not. A single intrinsically safe handset, enrolled under the tenant’s own management platform, covers the classified bay and the ordinary warehouse work on either side of it.
No. It is pre-launch with a Q4 2026 launch date, and IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification are all still in progress, as is UAE product registration. Today we can supply the datasheet, the certification schedule and a place in the evaluation programme, and nothing beyond that.
No list price is published before certification completes. Send the quantity, the sites and your timing and we will put pre-launch pricing in writing against that configuration. For Dubai terminals and free zone tenants the supply route is usually a locally registered partner, so the commercial answer and the channel answer arrive together.
Site acceptance belongs to the operator and follows the certificates rather than preceding them. The IECEx Certificate of Conformity with the full marking string is what their engineering review reads, and their own vendor registration is the separate commercial gate.
Zone 1 and Zone 21, gas and dust, with an ATEX marking target of II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. NEC 500 Class I Division 1 is being pursued alongside it, which matters at Jebel Ali because a good deal of terminal and marine work here is specified to the American code.
It is designed for it, with IP68 sealing, rugged build and a battery sized for a full shift. We would still rather put an evaluation unit on a barge or a berth with your own people before anyone commits a fleet to it.
Android 16 with standard enterprise management enrols into the EMM or MDM platform you already run, and push-to-talk over cellular runs as an application rather than as a second device on the belt. Send your build requirements with the evaluation request and we will match them.
Tell us the site, the zone and gas group, and roughly how many handsets. The SAMS team replies by email with the datasheet and the certification schedule for United Arab Emirates. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and certification is in progress, so there is no list price yet; indicative pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Tell us the zone, gas group and operator. We will send the datasheet and the certification schedule for your market.
