Heat and humidity with no cool season
Ambient sits near 30 °C with humidity above 80 per cent for most of the year. IP68 sealing and rugged build are the design answer, and the ambient range on the certificate is the compliance number.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Zone 1 and Zone 21 handset for people who work inside classified areas on Jurong Island, at Pulau Bukom and around the Tuas terminals: process operators, inspection and maintenance engineers, turnaround crews and the WSH and IT teams who equip them. It is pre-launch, so what a Singapore buyer can have today is the datasheet, the certification schedule and a place in the evaluation programme.
Launching Q4 2026 · IECEx and IMDA registration in progress
Singapore concentrates hazardous area work in a way no other market does. Jurong Island carries more than a hundred energy and chemicals plants on reclaimed land, Pulau Bukom and the storage islands are reached by boat, and the rest sits in Tuas and along the western wharves.
Operators and contractors such as ExxonMobil, Aster Chemicals and Energy and Singapore Refining Company need an explosion proof mobile phone they can carry into classified areas at Jurong Island, Pulau Bukom and Seraya and Merbau. The IS-04Z1 is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 duty there.
Each line below is a design target set against something a Singapore site does to equipment. Certification fixes the marking and the ambient range.
For evaluators in Singapore, the IS-04Z1 explosion proof mobile phone is designed around these points: Heat and humidity with no cool season; Gas group IIC, not only IIB; Dust beside vapour; Island working and boat access; Crews that read different languages.
Ambient sits near 30 °C with humidity above 80 per cent for most of the year. IP68 sealing and rugged build are the design answer, and the ambient range on the certificate is the compliance number.
Hydrogen and acetylene (gas group IIC) are handled on Jurong Island alongside ethylene oxide (IIB), so a device rated only to IIB is unusable on parts of the island. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4.
Polymer powder, catalyst and additive handling, and bulk cement at the wharves, put Zone 21 inside the same fence line as Zone 1. The handset is designed for both classifications.
Bukom, Sebarok and Busing are reached by launch. A flat handset is not a walk to the stores, it is the next boat, so the 4,000 mAh battery is sized for a whole shift with radio, camera and GNSS running.
Jurong Island work is done by a contractor workforce that speaks several languages, and toolbox talks are run accordingly. Android 16 carries the interface languages a crew reads on one hardware build.
Singapore works from the international schemes rather than a national Ex mark, so an IECEx Certificate of Conformity is the document a contractor package asks for. A phone also needs IMDA equipment registration, which only a licensed Singapore dealer can file. Both are in progress.
What your WSH and electrical teams will ask for is the certificate and the marking string, not the brochure. The Workplace Safety and Health Act places the duty on the occupier and the employer, and the risk assessment behind a device entering a classified area has to name the equipment. Singapore works from the international schemes rather than a national Ex mark: an IECEx Certificate of Conformity, read with the Singapore Standard adoptions of IEC 60079, is what a contractor package asks for. On a Major Hazard Installation the handset also has to sit consistently with the safety case assessed by the Major Hazards Department, staffed jointly by MOM, NEA and SCDF officers. None of those documents exists for this device yet.
The second gate is the radio and the import route. Telecommunications equipment sold or used in Singapore is registered with IMDA under the Equipment Registration Framework on the basis of a supplier declaration of conformity, and that registration can only be filed by a local supplier holding a Telecommunication Dealer’s Licence. It shapes how supply into Singapore has to work, and it is why the launch is being built around a Singapore registered partner. Above both sits the plant owner. Jurong Island occupiers each run their own contractor equipment approval and permit systems, so a device can hold every national document and still wait on a site listing.
Typical Zone 1 and Zone 21 duty for the IS-04Z1 explosion proof mobile phone in Singapore includes: Turnaround on a Jurong Island plant; Island operations at Bukom and Merbau; Gauging and bunker delivery at the storage islands; Yard work on hulls, rigs and FPSO conversions.
A shutdown compresses a year of maintenance into a few weeks, on a site where the next plant is over the fence. A permitted handset keeps the isolation check, the photograph and the call to the coordination room at the work front.
On an island refinery every trip back for a device is a boat rather than a walk. One handset covering the round, the photograph and the call costs fewer hours at the jetty than a radio, a camera and a paper permit.
Singapore is the world’s largest bunkering port, and the work behind it is gauging, sampling and metering in classified areas on jetties and barges. A reading captured with a position and a timestamp where it is taken settles a dispute later.
Gas trials, tank entry and hot work in a Tuas yard put crews inside temporarily classified spaces under a permit for every job. A handset that stays in the pocket keeps the permit trail with the person doing the work.
Nothing moves into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists, so the useful work now is specification, documentation and evaluation.
Send the zone, the gas group, the temperature class and the ambient range you specify to, and say whether the fleet crosses to Bukom or the storage islands.
You receive the technical datasheet and a written schedule of which certifications are running, what each one covers and the expected sequence, in a form that drops into a contractor package or a tender response.
Evaluation units are placed once certification allows it, beginning in safe areas with your own MDM and your own site apps. One crew across one shift pattern tells you more than a specification comparison.
IMDA registration has to be filed by a licensed local dealer, so volume supply will run through a Singapore registered partner that holds one. Pre-launch pricing is on request.
Send your site, zone and gas group, and we will answer for your plant rather than in general.
Ask about Singapore →No. It is pre-launch and every certification, IECEx included, is still running ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. Nothing belongs in a classified area until the Certificate of Conformity covering it is issued.
Singapore works from the international schemes and there is no separate national Ex mark to collect. The IECEx Certificate of Conformity, read with the Singapore Standard adoptions of IEC 60079, is what a plant works from.
We do not publish a price and will not quote one for a device whose certification is unfinished. Pre-launch pricing is on request against a stated quantity, and the landed cost of a compliant unit includes the IMDA registration the dealer files.
Zone 1 and Zone 21, gas and dust. The ATEX marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4, and IIC matters here because hydrogen and ethylene oxide are handled on parts of Jurong Island.
The certificate is the first requirement rather than the last. Each plant owner runs its own equipment approval and permit system for contractor devices, so allow for a site listing as well.
Yes. Telecommunications equipment used here is registered with IMDA under the Equipment Registration Framework, and only a supplier holding a Telecommunication Dealer’s Licence can file it. That work is part of the launch programme.
Launch is Q4 2026. Until then you can request the datasheet, register a requirement for the first allocation, or join the evaluation programme for a unit on your own site.
An intrinsically safe handset cannot be opened by a general phone workshop without invalidating its certification. Service will run through SAMS and the Singapore partner it is appointing, and that route is being defined now.
Tell us the site, the zone and gas group, and roughly how many handsets. The SAMS team replies by email with the datasheet and the certification schedule for Singapore. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and certification is in progress, so there is no list price yet; indicative pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
We are appointing Singapore distributors that hold a Telecommunication Dealer’s Licence, sell into Jurong Island and the marine sector, and can carry spares and manage service locally. Tell us which plants you already supply.
