Island trips set the working day
Bukom, Sebarok and Busing are reached by boat. A device that carries the call, camera, position and permit lookup avoids a second trip. A 4,000 mAh battery is sized for a full shift.
Singapore’s refining and storage sector spans the island refinery at Bukom, refineries at Jurong and on Jurong Island, the tank terminals on Sebarok, Banyan and Penjuru, and the underground rock caverns. This page is for the HSE, operations and telecoms teams who must decide what explosion proof mobile phone in Singapore can go into those areas. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and no certificate has been issued. The IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety rather than a flameproof enclosure.
Launching Q4 2026 · certification programme in progress
Singapore has no crude of its own, so refining and storage are an import business: crude arrives by tanker, products leave by ship and the tanks between hold working stock for the Asian market. Refineries are operated at Pulau Bukom by Aster Chemicals and Energy, at Jurong by ExxonMobil and on Jurong Island by Singapore Refining Company. Storage is run by terminal operators, including Vopak at Sebarok, Banyan and Penjuru, and by Jurong Rock Caverns, which keeps liquid hydrocarbons in rock below the seabed near Banyan. The hazards are mostly hydrocarbon vapour in group IIA and IIB, with hydrogen at the upgrading units pushing the refinery side to IIC. Dust is rare in this sector and mostly confined to catalyst handling. Work is organised around unit rounds, tank gauging, jetty operations and periodic turnarounds, and the cargo and the weather together set the pace.
In this sector the person is often the only sensor that moves. The handset has to record what they see.

Refinery upgrading units can contain hydrogen, while tank storage is mostly IIA and IIB vapour. Marking the device II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4 means one fleet covers both, with the temperature class on the certificate checked against each product.
Jetties and tank tops are wet more often than dry. IP68 sealing and rugged build are the design answer, and the certificate states the ambient range.
A level or sample taken in the field has commercial value. A reading captured with position and time is easier to reconcile than a handwritten figure.
Refiners and terminals run their own contractor equipment and permit systems. Ask each operator’s procurement and HSE teams what they require; we do not claim any listing.
An operator records readings, photographs a leak and calls the control room from one device. In a shutdown, the same fleet can be enrolled for the contractor crews.
A terminal operator logs tank level and sample details with position and time, and inspection teams record findings on the tank top.
A jetty supervisor checks the line-up, photographs a hose, talks to the control room and logs the time, all on one device.
Not necessarily. The IS-04Z1 is designed for Zone 1 gas and Zone 21 dust with a gas group IIC target, so one device can cover refinery units, tank farms and jetties. Which areas it is accepted in is each site’s decision.
The caverns are below ground, but the surface plant and shafts are classified like other storage. Ask the operator for the area classification of the surface facilities.
No. SAMS has no named customers in Singapore and this page does not imply any. The device is pre-launch.
The Workplace Safety and Health Act puts duties on the occupier and the employer, and on Major Hazard Installations the safety case governs. A handset has to be consistent with the risk assessment, which has to name it.
Tell us the site, the zone and gas group, and roughly how many handsets. The SAMS team replies by email with the datasheet and the certification schedule for Singapore. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and certification is in progress, so there is no list price yet; indicative pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Tell us the zone, gas group and operator. We will send the datasheet and the certification schedule for your market.
