Tüpraş runs four refineries in Türkiye, at İzmit, İzmir, Kırıkkale and Batman, and most of the country’s road fuel passes through them. The four refineries are different in scale and in how they are fed. İzmit, at Körfez on the Marmara, and İzmir, at Aliağa on the Aegean, are each rated at 11 million tonnes of crude a year and take cargoes by sea. Kırıkkale, at 5 million tonnes, is supplied through the Ceyhan–Kırıkkale pipeline and sits on the Kızılırmak about 15 km south of the town. Batman, at 1.1 million tonnes, runs domestic crude from small south-eastern fields that arrives by pipeline and by road tanker. At İzmit the residue upgrading project, commissioned by the third quarter of 2015, turns high-sulphur fuel oil into diesel, jet fuel, gasoline and LPG. Each site is a dense cluster of heaters, columns, hydrogen-bearing units and tank farms, which is why a single area can contain Zone 1 gas hazards for hours of every shift.
A refinery is a long working day inside the fence. The conditions below are the ones that decide whether a handset is carried at all, as opposed to being left in the control room.
Planned stops bring contractor crews through the gate in large numbers, and each person needs a permit, an isolation record and a way to reach the control room. Android Enterprise enrolment lets Tüpraş issue handsets for the stop and wipe them at demobilisation.
A handset marked only for a lower gas group is kept out of hydrotreater and hydrogen unit areas. The marking target for the IS-04Z1, II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4, is chosen so that one device is not excluded from the units where it is most useful.
İzmit and İzmir deal with salt air and summer heat, while Kırıkkale and Batman see dust and a colder inland winter. IP68 sealing is aimed at spray, dust and routine cleaning, and the certified temperature range will be published with the datasheet.
Gauge readings, a weeping flange or a blind in place are better shown than described. The 50 MP camera and the four-constellation GNSS fix put a legible image and a position into the permit record rather than a verbal note.
A supervisor at a refinery stop confirms a blind list at the flange rather than at the permit office. The photograph, the tag number and the time go into one enrolled device.
An outside operator at İzmir or İzmit walks a tank farm route with a work order list, takes readings and photographs a floor drain or a vent, and reports back without leaving the classified area.
Smaller refineries and the road-tanker loading around Batman run with thinner crews. One handset covers navigation, the camera and the call to the shift manager.
Tüpraş publishes a supplier management policy and runs a supplier portal at supplier.tupras.com.tr. The first step for any equipment supplier is to read that policy and ask the procurement team what registration and documentation they require. A planned stop is the busiest period a refinery has for people and permits. Tüpraş has disclosed periodic maintenance of the İzmit fuel oil conversion plant of this kind, planned as a 92-day stop. Handsets for a turnaround should be enrolled in advance, have a role-restricted application set, and be recoverable at the end.
The certificate and marking belong to the device, so they travel with it. What changes is the area classification at each site, and each refinery’s İSG team still has to confirm the zone and temperature class against its own drawings before any handset is issued.
