Summer heat and temperature class
Open plant in the Eastern Province sits above 45 °C for months. The ATEX marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4, and the temperature class is the first line your instrumentation engineer will check.
The IS-04Z1 is a Zone 1 and Zone 21 handset for people who work inside classified areas in the Kingdom: field operators, maintenance and inspection engineers, and the HSE and telecoms teams who equip them. It is pre-launch, so today you can have the datasheet, the certification schedule and a place in the evaluation programme. Often searched for as an “explosion proof phone”, the IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety as its protection concept.
Launching Q4 2026 · IECEx and SASO programme in progress
Most of the Kingdom’s classified-area workforce is in the Eastern Province, with a second cluster on the Red Sea coast. These are the operators and sites the launch programme is aimed at.
Operators and contractors such as Saudi Aramco, SABIC and SATORP need an explosion proof mobile phone they can carry into classified areas at Abqaiq, Ras Tanura and Ghawar. The IS-04Z1 is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 duty there.
A specification only matters where it meets the site. Here is how the design maps onto what a Saudi plant does to equipment and to the people carrying it.
For evaluators in Saudi Arabia, the IS-04Z1 explosion proof mobile phone is designed around these points: Summer heat and temperature class; Dust as well as gas; A battery sized for the shift; Gloves, glare and grip; Arabic and English on one handset; Managed like the rest of the fleet.

Sulphur and grain handling put Zone 21 alongside Zone 1 at some sites across the Kingdom. The device is designed for both, and the IP68 rating is what matters after a shamal.
The 4,000 mAh cell is specified for a full shift. At Shaybah or Khurais the nearest stores is not a five-minute walk, and there is no recharging inside a classified area.
rugged build and a display built for outdoor use keep the handset workable in gloves and in sun that makes a printed permit unreadable by mid-morning.
Android 16 carries both interface languages, so a Saudi national operator and an expatriate contractor crew can be issued the same build rather than two.
EMM and MDM enrolment pushes the corporate profile, the camera policy and the app list centrally, which is how a camera-equipped device fits a site where photography runs on permit.
An IECEx Certificate of Conformity is the technical evidence Saudi operators and the SABER platform work from. SASO conformity and CST radio registration are being pursued alongside launch and are not yet complete.
Procurement will be asked for a Product Certificate of Conformity on the SABER platform, then a Shipment Certificate for every consignment before customs releases it. For hazardous-area equipment the evidence underneath that certificate is an IECEx Certificate of Conformity, and because this product is a phone it also needs CST registration for the radio. None of the three is finished yet.
The second gate decides whether the handset gets through the plant gate. Saudi Aramco runs an approved-vendor process with material specifications above the national standard, and SABIC, Ma’aden and the Saudi Electricity Company each run their own engineering approval. A device can be fully SABER-cleared and still be unusable on site until the operator’s instrumentation or telecoms group has listed it, so plan for two timelines.
Typical Zone 1 and Zone 21 duty for the IS-04Z1 explosion proof mobile phone in Saudi Arabia includes: Well and flowline rounds at Ghawar and Khurais; Turnaround work at Ras Tanura; Zone 21 areas at Jubail and Yanbu; Shaybah and the southern fields.
Operators walking a route through classified areas need to log a reading, photograph a weeping flange and reach the control room without carrying three devices. Four-constellation GNSS puts a position on the record when the well pad has no landmark to describe.
During a shutdown the contractor population multiplies and permit traffic with it. A single handset carrying the permit app, the site directory and the camera cuts what every crew signs out in the morning and hands back at night.
Polymer, fertiliser and minerals handling generate combustible dust as well as flammable vapour. Because the device is designed for Zone 21 as well as Zone 1, one specification covers both halves of an integrated complex.
At an Empty Quarter asset a failed handset is a truck journey rather than a walk to stores. IP68 sealing, rugged build and full-shift endurance keep a unit in service between planned resupply runs.
The IS-04Z1 launches in Q4 2026. Until then, this is what SAMS can do with a Saudi buyer, front-loaded so your approvals run in parallel with our certification.
Send the area classification, gas group and temperature class for the areas the device would enter, plus the operator whose approval you work under. That is enough for us to say where certification stands against your requirement.
You receive the full datasheet and a written schedule of the certifications in progress with target dates. Your HSE team can begin an equipment selection justification with it, and procurement can open a vendor file.
Ahead of launch we are placing evaluation units with Saudi operators and contractors for handling and MDM trials in safe areas, moving to classified-area pilots once the certificate is issued.
IKTVA scoring and Aramco vendor registration favour a locally registered supplier, so volume supply is planned through a Saudi partner. Evaluation quantities can be supplied directly in the meantime.
Send your site, zone and gas group, and we will answer for your plant rather than in general.
Ask about Saudi Arabia →No. The device is pre-launch and every certification, including IECEx, ATEX and the SASO conformity route, is still in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. We will not supply a unit into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists.
Aramco approval is separate from national conformity and is granted by Aramco, not by us. The IECEx certificate is the technical evidence that process is built on, and the vendor documentation is being prepared with an in-Kingdom partner.
Zone 1 and Zone 21, gas and dust. The ATEX marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. NEC 500 Class I Division 1 is being pursued in parallel for Saudi projects written to the American code.
Yes. Android 16 runs the interface in Arabic or English on the same handset, and the user manual will be supplied in both. Your own site apps keep whatever languages they already use.
It is designed to, with IP68 sealing and rugged build. The number to evaluate is the temperature class on the certificate, checked against the maximum surface temperature your area classification allows.
An intrinsically safe device cannot be opened on site or repaired by a general phone workshop without invalidating its certification. The service route runs through SAMS and the Saudi partner it is appointing, and is being defined as part of the launch.
Yes, for evaluation. Register interest with your site details and we will tell you what is available and when. Pre-launch pricing is on request; we do not publish prices or quote lead times while certification is running.
There is no list price yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and we do not publish pricing for a device whose certification is still running. Pre-launch pricing is quoted in writing against quantity and configuration, and supply into the Kingdom will run through a partner holding the relevant vendor registrations.
Tell us the site, the zone and gas group, and roughly how many handsets. The SAMS team replies by email with the datasheet and the certification schedule for Saudi Arabia. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and certification is in progress, so there is no list price yet; indicative pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
SAMS is appointing Saudi safety and instrumentation distributors that hold operator vendor numbers and can carry spares in the Eastern Province. Tell us which operators you are registered with.
