Hundreds of sites, one round
A field operator’s route can cover many wellsites in a day. Four-constellation GNSS and 4G LTE let a route be tracked and each inspection photograph carry a position.
Romania’s upstream sector is one of the oldest in the world, and it now spans mature onshore fields in Muntenia, Oltenia, Moldova and Transylvania as well as Black Sea gas developments. This page is for the HSE and operations teams who need an explosion proof mobile phone in Romania that suits wellsites, tank batteries and offshore platforms. The IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety rather than a flameproof enclosure.

Two large producers dominate the picture. OMV Petrom reports domestic production through assets that include Moesia, Crișana, Oltenia, Muntenia and Petromar, the Black Sea asset, while Romgaz produces gas mainly in the Transylvanian Basin around Mediaș and Târgu Mureș. Together they are developing Neptun Deep, a deep-water gas project whose first gas is targeted for 2027, with a subsea pipeline of about 160 km to the shore at Tuzla. The country page also names a Black Sea gas development at Midia with an onshore gas treatment plant near Vadu. What distinguishes Romanian upstream work from the Gulf or the North Sea is its pattern: very many small, old and dispersed facilities. A mature field has hundreds of wellheads, tank batteries and flowlines, serviced by small crews in vans, with the occasional large drilling or workover campaign passing through.
Upstream conditions test a handset on distance, weather and the lack of infrastructure rather than on process complexity.

There is no power point inside a classified wellsite. The 4,000 mAh battery is sized to cover a complete shift with the camera and a work-order application running.
Romanian winters and thaws leave wellsites icy or flooded. IP68 sealing and rugged construction are meant for that, and trial use at a mature field is the right test.
Platform crews are flown or shipped out and stay for a rotation. The device must work with the platform’s own network; any offshore use is subject to the operator’s assurance process.
Drilling and workover crews belong to contractors. Android Enterprise policy lets the operator issue devices, restrict applications and wipe them when the rig leaves.
An operator checks pressures, records a reading and photographs a leaking gland, with position attached, then moves to the next wellsite without a return to the vehicle to log it.
A rig on a new location creates a new classified area. Contractor staff need the same permit and daily report system as the operator’s own crew.
Offshore, many specialist contractors arrive for short periods. A pool of enrolled handsets avoids personal phones on the deck.
Dry gas is mostly methane, gas group IIA, so IIA would meet the classification. A IIC target lets the same handset be used across other sites such as refineries, so one model can be issued across an operator’s estate.
See our pages for OMV Petrom and Romgaz, which cover the two principal producers in more detail.
It is designed for Zone 1 duty with IP68 sealing and a rugged build, but offshore acceptance rests with the operator’s own assurance process and the final certificate. Nothing is supplied before certification.
No. We have no customers, distributors, orders or pilots with the operators named on this page. The text describes what their teams would ask for.
Tell us the site, the zone and gas group, and roughly how many handsets. The SAMS team replies by email with the datasheet and the certification schedule for Romania. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and certification is in progress, so there is no list price yet; indicative pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Tell us the zone, gas group and operator. We will send the datasheet and the certification schedule for your market.
