Hydrogen beside hydrocarbon
Gas group IIC covers hydrogen. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4, so a handset used in a hydrotreater unit is not limited to the hydrocarbon half of the plant.
Poland’s refining and petrochemical hazardous areas are concentrated at Płock and Gdańsk, at the Orlen Południe sites in the south, and in the downstream plants alongside them. This page is for HSE, maintenance and telecoms teams at those sites and the contractors who work on their units, who need an explosion proof mobile phone in Poland for Zone 1 and Zone 21 work. The IS-04Z1 is designed for that; certification is in progress ahead of Q4 2026. The IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety rather than a flameproof enclosure.

This page takes the sector view: what each type of unit does to a handset, whoever owns it. For the operator’s organisation and sites, see explosion proof mobile phone for Orlen. Płock is both refinery and petrochemical plant, and Gdańsk is a refinery with a coking complex commissioned in the EFRA programme. Orlen Południe works with biocomponents at Trzebinia and with base oils and oil regeneration at Jedlicze. A refinery is not one hazard but a series: crude distillation, hydrotreating, conversion, sulphur recovery, olefins, polymers, loading. Each has its own gas group, its own temperature class and its own turnaround. The Płock complex is the larger of the two and carries the olefins and polymer chain; Gdańsk is a coastal site where crude, product and coke move by ship, pipeline and rail. Orlen’s subsidiary Anwil, at Włocławek, takes chemistry further into PVC, and the chemical plant view covers that side.
The device’s job is to survive and stay legitimate in a hazardous area for a full shift, again and again, with contractors who come and go.

No phone replaces a personal H2S monitor. What the IS-04Z1 adds is an alarm record, a position and a photograph of the cause.
Polyolefin powder and coke dust call for Zone 21. That is part of the same programme, so a round that crosses from vapour to powder does not need a second device.
During a shutdown, hundreds of contractors can arrive within days. Enrolment, restriction and wiping through EMM and MDM turns that into a procedure.
IP68 sealing and a rugged build are aimed at outdoor work in winter, and the ambient range will be fixed by the certificate rather than promised in advance.
A refinery has thousands of tag numbers and many look alike. A GNSS position, four constellations, plus a photograph removes doubt about which flange the report refers to.
Readings, a photograph and a location go to the maintenance planner without a stop at the control room.
The permit, drawings and checklists sit on one device, locked to the approved applications.
Supervisors carry voice, camera and position into the loading area where vapour is released, and the loading record is made there instead of at the end of the shift.
Most hydrocarbon work is gas group IIA; ethylene is IIB; hydrogen is IIC. A handset marked IIC covers all three, but the temperature class and the zone still have to match each area.
The certificate does not, but each site keeps its own classification drawings, permit procedures and contractor induction. Ask each site what it needs, and do not assume that one site’s answer applies to the other.
Not the certificate, but the permit regime. Contractor equipment is usually reviewed by the operator’s HSE team before it is used, so ask what evidence they need.
No. Certification is in progress, SAMS has no pilot or order at a Polish refinery, and the decision to allow it belongs to each operator.
Tell us the site, the zone and gas group, and roughly how many handsets. The SAMS team replies by email with the datasheet and the certification schedule for Poland. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and certification is in progress, so there is no list price yet; indicative pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Tell us the zone, gas group and operator. We will send the datasheet and the certification schedule for your market.
