Alone at an unmanned station
Lone working is routine at small stations. Four-constellation GNSS puts a position on a record, and Android Enterprise lets the device be managed from the same console as the rest of the operator’s fleet.
Gaz-System operates Poland’s gas transmission grid, including the compressor stations that carry Norwegian gas after Baltic Pipe, and the Świnoujście LNG terminal on the Baltic coast. This page is for the operator’s HSE, automation and maintenance teams, and the contractors on its stations, who are looking for an explosion proof mobile phone in Poland rated for Zone 1. The IS-04Z1 is designed for that duty; certification is in progress ahead of Q4 2026. The IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety rather than a flameproof enclosure.
Launching Q4 2026 · certification programme in progress
Gas transmission is a thin, long business: a few large nodes and a great many small unmanned ones. At the large end the Świnoujście LNG terminal has been in operation since 2016; after a second quay and a third process storage tank were added, Gaz-System describes its regasification capacity as up to 8.3 billion cubic metres a year. Baltic Pipe widened the grid’s capacity, and the compressor stations at Odolanów and Goleniów were expanded while Gustorzyn was built new. At the small end are pressure reduction and metering stations and valve nodes that a technician often visits alone. Natural gas is methane, gas group IIA, but a compressor hall or a vent stack still defines a zone, and a leak check is the moment you most want a camera and a position on the same device.
A grid operator’s people spread thin across a lot of ground, and the handset is often the only link between a technician and the control room.

The LNG terminal is exposed coast. IP68 sealing and rugged build are aimed at wet, cold and salt-laden outdoor work, with the ambient range to be fixed by the certificate.
Methane sits in gas group IIA, so a handset targeting II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4 has margin. If hydrogen-enriched gas is ever handled, IIC is the group that matters, and the area classification should say so.
A photograph and a coordinate attached to an inspection record are worth more at a valve node than a free-text description. The 50 MP camera is for that.
Compressor outages bring maintenance contractors onto a small site for a short period. Enrolment, restriction and wiping through EMM and MDM fits that rotation.
A technician logs readings across a hall and its auxiliaries, photographs a defect and calls the control room from the same device, without leaving the zone to do it.
Operators on the jetty during a cargo transfer need voice, a camera and a reliable position for the person on watch; a Zone 1 handset removes the need for a separate radio and camera.
A route covers several unmanned sites. The device carries the checklist, takes dated photographs and sends them when coverage allows.
Gas group IIA is the least demanding of the three, but zone type still matters. A compressor hall may be Zone 2 where a vent stack is Zone 1, and the handset must be marked for the more severe of the two it will visit. Always check the operator’s classification drawing.
The IS-04Z1 has 4G LTE and Wi-Fi. Whether records queue and sync later depends on the application your teams use; ask your application vendor for its offline behaviour.
The operator, through its own procurement and HSE rules. Ask what it requires of portable electronic devices on stations and at the terminal. SAMS has no relationship with Gaz-System, and this page is not an endorsement by it.
Tell us the site, the zone and gas group, and roughly how many handsets. The SAMS team replies by email with the datasheet and the certification schedule for Poland. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and certification is in progress, so there is no list price yet; indicative pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Tell us the zone, gas group and operator. We will send the datasheet and the certification schedule for your market.
