Dust beside gas
The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4 with Zone 21 dust protection under the same programme. One handset serves the reformer, the granulator and the bagging hall.
Polish fertiliser and chemical plants put gas and dust in the same fence: nitrogen, chlorine and polymer works at Puławy, Police, Tarnów, Kędzierzyn-Koźle and Włocławek. This page is for HSE and maintenance teams at those sites, and the contractors who work there, who need an explosion proof mobile phone in Poland that is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. The IS-04Z1 is being certified for that duty ahead of its Q4 2026 launch. The IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety rather than a flameproof enclosure.

This page is the process view; the operators are covered separately, with explosion proof mobile phone use at Grupa Azoty taking the group’s own plants. Four process families make up most of the classified area. Ammonia synthesis starts from natural gas and ends with a toxic liquid. Finishing plants turn ammonia into granules, prills and melamine, and generate dust. Chlor-alkali electrolysis at Anwil, Włocławek, produces chlorine, caustic soda and hydrogen, and feeds vinyl chloride and PVC. Oxo plants at Kędzierzyn make alcohols and plasticisers from syngas. Polimery Police adds propylene and polypropylene to the Police site. Anwil is a subsidiary of Orlen, and its place in that group is described under the Orlen operator page. What links these processes is that each one is run around the clock by a small operating crew, and that each stops on a planned cycle for maintenance when contractors outnumber the permanent staff.
In this sector the issue is rarely a single hazard. It is the number of different ones that sit on the same shift.

Chlor-alkali cell rooms produce hydrogen, gas group IIC, and chlorine, which is corrosive and toxic. The first is a Zone 1 matter, the second a PPE and ventilation matter.
Fertiliser dispatch rises with the agricultural calendar. Loading crews and drivers change often, so the handset needs enrolment that takes minutes.
Ammonia, nitric acid and chlorine plants stop on planned cycles, and contractors move from plant to plant.
Inspectors and insurers ask for dated, located evidence of what was found and when. A photograph carrying a position and a timestamp is stronger than a handwritten line.
Chlorine, ammonia and acid mist attack seals and ports over time. The IP68 rating describes ingress protection, and the plant’s own corrosion and maintenance rules still apply.
Move from granulation to bagging to loading, photograph a defect and record its position in dusty areas.
Carry voice and camera into hydrogen areas, and manage devices through MDM as shifts rotate.
Check the powder system on rounds and send a dated photo to the maintenance planner, so a blocked filter or a leaking rotary valve is dealt with on the same day.
It is an oxidiser rather than a typical fuel dust, so how it is classified depends on the plant and the operator’s dust study. Ask the site for its classification rather than assuming.
Fine polymer powder can form explosive clouds in dryers and silos; the plant’s own classification decides which areas are Zone 20, 21 or 22. The IS-04Z1 is designed for Zone 21, not Zone 20.
The plant, through its permit-to-work rules and its explosion protection document. Ask the operator’s procurement and HSE teams what evidence they need for portable electronic equipment before a contractor brings any on site.
No. Certification is in progress and SAMS has no pilot or order at any Polish chemical plant.
Tell us the site, the zone and gas group, and roughly how many handsets. The SAMS team replies by email with the datasheet and the certification schedule for Poland. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and certification is in progress, so there is no list price yet; indicative pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Tell us the zone, gas group and operator. We will send the datasheet and the certification schedule for your market.
