Explosion proof mobile phone for Jordan, Zone 1 and Zone 21

The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe handset for people who cross into classified areas in Jordan every shift: potash and phosphate plant operators, refinery crews at Zarqa, port operators at Aqaba, and the HSE and telecoms teams who equip them. It is pre-launch, so what you can have today is the datasheet, the certification schedule and an evaluation unit.

Where a flameproof handset is needed in Jordan

Jordan’s classified-area work sits in two clusters: the potash and phosphate operations around the Dead Sea and the southern desert, and the refining and port complex at Aqaba on the Red Sea.

Operators and contractors such as Arab Potash Company, Jordan Phosphate Mines Company and Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company need an explosion proof mobile phone they can carry into classified areas at Dead Sea works, Eshidiya and Al-Hasa and Al-Abiad. The IS-04Z1 is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 duty there.

Built for Jordanian conditions

Jordan is drier and dustier than most of its neighbours, and its heaviest classified-area exposure is dust rather than gas. These are the points a Jordanian evaluator presses on, and how the design answers them.

For evaluators in Jordan, the IS-04Z1 explosion proof mobile phone is designed around these points: Phosphate and potash dust as the primary hazard; Desert heat and altitude swings; Remote site logistics; Arabic and English on one build; Managed centrally across scattered sites.

OSAndroid 16

Phosphate and potash dust as the primary hazard

Unlike the Gulf, Jordan’s largest classified-area exposure is combustible dust from mining and processing rather than hydrocarbon gas. The device is designed for Zone 21 as well as Zone 1, and IP68 sealing is what matters after a dusty shift at Eshidiya.

Desert heat and altitude swings

Southern desert sites run extreme daytime heat while Amman sits at altitude with cooler nights. The ATEX marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4, and the temperature class is the first line an instrumentation engineer checks.

Remote site logistics

Eshidiya and the southern phosphate mines are a genuine distance from Amman, and there is no recharging point inside a classified processing area. The 4,000 mAh cell is specified to last a full shift.

Arabic and English on one build

Jordanian operations run with a mixed national and expatriate technical workforce. Android 16 carries both interface languages on the same handset.

Managed centrally across scattered sites

EMM and MDM enrolment lets an operator with plants spread from the Dead Sea to Aqaba manage the fleet from one console rather than site by site.

Approvals in Jordan

Certification programme ahead of Q4 2026 launch.

IECEx certification is the technical basis Jordanian operators work from. Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) conformity marking is being pursued alongside launch.

What your HSE and procurement teams will ask for.

Conformity in Jordan runs through the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO), which sets and enforces national technical regulations including those adopted from Gulf and international standards. For hazardous-area equipment the technical evidence behind that conformity is an IECEx Certificate of Conformity, and because this product is a phone it also needs Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) type approval for the radio. Neither is finished yet.

Getting past the plant gate is a separate exercise. Arab Potash Company and Jordan Phosphate Mines Company each run their own vendor-registration and engineering-approval process for equipment entering a classified processing area, and supply is normally expected to run through a Jordanian-registered partner. A device can be fully JSMO-cleared for import and still be unlisted on an operator’s own equipment register, so plan for two timelines rather than one.

Use cases · Jordan

Where the IS-04Z1 explosion proof mobile phone goes to work.

Typical Zone 1 and Zone 21 duty for the IS-04Z1 explosion proof mobile phone in Jordan includes: Open-pit phosphate operations at Eshidiya; Dead Sea evaporation ponds and processing plant; Turnaround work at the Zarqa refinery; Fuel terminal and port operations at Aqaba.

Mining01

Open-pit phosphate operations at Eshidiya

A shift supervisor walking a phosphate pit and beneficiation plant needs to log conditions, photograph equipment and stay in contact with the control room across a large, dusty site. Four-constellation GNSS puts a position on the record where distances are measured in kilometres.

Potash processing02

Dead Sea evaporation ponds and processing plant

Potash processing generates fine combustible dust across drying and handling areas. A device rated for Zone 21 as well as Zone 1 means one specification covers both the ponds and the processing plant.

Refining03

Turnaround work at the Zarqa refinery

As Jordan’s only refinery, a JPRC turnaround concentrates contractor traffic and permit volume into a short window. One enrolled handset carrying the permit app, the site directory and the camera cuts what every crew signs out.

Ports and logistics04

Fuel terminal and port operations at Aqaba

Aqaba combines a fuel import terminal with general port operations in one economic zone. IP68 sealing and a full-shift battery suit both the terminal’s classified areas and the surrounding logistics operation.

How to buy · Jordan

How to evaluate and buy in Jordan

The IS-04Z1 launches in Q4 2026. None of these steps needs a purchase order, and they are ordered so that your approvals and our certification run in parallel.

  1. 01

    Send us the area classification

Give us the zone, gas or dust group and temperature class for the areas a device would enter, plus the operator whose approval you work under. That is enough for us to say plainly where certification stands against your requirement.

  2. 02

Take the datasheet and the certificate schedule

You receive the full specification and a written list of the certifications in progress with target dates. An HSE officer can start an equipment selection justification with it, and procurement can open a vendor file.

  3. 03

    Join the evaluation programme

Evaluation units will be offered to Jordanian operators and contractors for handling and MDM trials in safe areas, moving to classified-area pilots once the certificate exists.

  4. 04

    Supply through a Jordanian partner

Vendor-registration processes at APC and JPMC favour a locally registered supplier who can hold the JSMO documentation and carry spares. Evaluation quantities can be supplied directly while that channel is appointed.

Questions · Jordan

Frequently asked questions

Asking about a site in Jordan?

Send your site, zone and gas group, and we will answer for your plant rather than in general.

Ask about Jordan →
Can we buy an explosion proof mobile phone from SAMS in Jordan today?

Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and every certification behind it, including IECEx, ATEX and the JSMO conformity route, is still in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. What exists today is the datasheet, the certification schedule and a place in the evaluation programme.

Is this mainly for dust hazards rather than gas?

Jordan’s largest classified-area exposure is combustible dust from potash and phosphate processing, and the device is designed for Zone 21 as well as Zone 1 gas atmospheres, so it covers both.

What is the price of an explosion proof phone in Jordan?

We do not publish one. Until certification completes there is no list price, and pre-launch pricing is available on request against a stated quantity and site.

Which zones and gas groups is it designed for?

Zone 1 and Zone 21, gas and dust. NEC 500 Class I Division 1 is being pursued alongside for projects run to the American code.

Will Arab Potash or JPMC accept it on site?

That decision belongs to the operator and follows the certificates rather than preceding them. The IECEx certificate is the evidence their engineering review is built on.

Does it work in Arabic?

Yes. Android 16 runs the interface in Arabic or English on the same handset and the user manual will be issued in both.
