Salt exposure at the Dead Sea
Safi combines heat, humidity and salt. IP68 sealing protects the enclosure, but contacts need a cleaning routine and materials should be confirmed with APC engineers.
Jordan's mineral exports come from two very different operations, and each raises a different question for an explosion proof mobile phone in Jordan. Arab Potash Company works Dead Sea brine at Ghor Al-Safi through solar ponds and refining plant, while Jordan Phosphate Mines Company runs open-pit mines at Al-Hasa, Al-Abiad and Eshidiya plus a chemical complex at Aqaba. Both sit a long way from a supplier, and both classify their areas by their own studies. The IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety rather than a flameproof enclosure.
Launching Q4 2026 · IECEx dust-rating programme in progress
Two national companies dominate. APC holds the Dead Sea concession and produces potash and, through subsidiaries, potassium nitrate and Dead Sea salts and mud. JPMC is the only phosphate miner in the country and operates the Aqaba phosphate port and a phosphoric acid and fertiliser complex. The common assumption that mining means combustible dust deserves care here: potash is a salt and phosphate rock is not usually treated as explosive, so the classified areas are often defined by fuel, solvents, ammonia, sulphur and utilities rather than the ore. Treat Zone 21 as a question for each operator's study, not a given.
The two companies mean two environment profiles for the same device, so the evaluation should cover both.

Pit floors and crushing plants fill ports and lens covers with fine dust. IP68 construction and rugged build are specified for it.
A 4,000 mAh battery is specified for a full shift, and Eshidiya is about 125 km from Aqaba, so a failed unit is not a same-day swap. Hold spares near the work.
Operations combine national staff and expatriate technical teams. The interface runs in Arabic or English, and Android Enterprise policy can be applied in either language.
We have not seen either company's rosters. Mining runs in shifts over wide areas, with contractors on haulage, maintenance and expansion. A process plant like Safi runs continuously, with planned stoppages that bring in contractor crews. The handset questions that follow are practical: who issues the device, which applications are allowed, and whether the camera is enabled in areas where photography is controlled. For the individual operators, see explosion proof phone for Arab Potash Company and explosion proof phone for Jordan Phosphate Mines Company.
Crews along dikes and in the refinery photograph defects, log readings and report by coordinate.
Supervisors cover large pits and plant areas, keeping in contact with control rooms across kilometres.
Both products move through Aqaba, where warehouse and jetty crews need the same device policy as the sites that supplied them.
APC and JPMC each run their own equipment approval, and we have not verified the detail of either, so we describe neither. Ask each company's procurement and HSE teams for supplier requirements and its hazardous-area selection rules. Expect the Ex certificate, marking string, ambient range, a Telecommunications Regulatory Commission radio approval reference and an Arabic and English manual to be asked for.
The IS-04Z1 holds none of these yet; IECEx and ATEX work is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. Supply is normally expected to run through a Jordanian-registered partner. See the Jordan country page for the approval route.
Yes in the sense that one specification can follow both operators, but each company sets its own classified areas. Zone 1 gas and Zone 21 dust are the design targets; where each applies is a site decision.
Not necessarily. Potash and phosphate rock are not usually treated as explosive dusts. Fuel, ammonia, sulphur and utilities at the processing and Aqaba sites more often drive the classification.
It depends on where the device goes. APC for Dead Sea and potash scopes, JPMC for the southern mines and Aqaba complex. They do not share procurement.
They can, by enrolling devices at the gate and removing them when the job closes. The operator decides which applications and camera permissions apply to contractor devices.
Tell us the site, the zone and gas group, and roughly how many handsets. The SAMS team replies by email with the datasheet and the certification schedule for Jordan. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and certification is in progress, so there is no list price yet; indicative pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Tell us the zone, gas group and operator. We will send the datasheet and the certification schedule for your market.
