Hydrogen-rich gas
The design target of II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4 is aimed at the demanding gas groups, hydrogen included. The exact marking and scope will be stated on the certificate, and the works' own classification drawings decide where it applies.
An explosion proof mobile phone for Třinecké železárny has to work in an integrated steelworks where the gas hazard is not natural gas but coke oven gas and blast furnace gas. Třinecké železárny, founded in 1839 and based in Třinec in the Moravian-Silesian region of the Czech Republic, runs a closed cycle from coke production to hot-rolled steel. This page is for the HSE, energy and maintenance teams deciding what a person may carry through the coke plant and the gas network. The IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety rather than a flameproof enclosure.
Launching Q4 2026 · ATEX certification in progress
The company's published description is of an integrated works with a closed production cycle: a coke plant of two coke batteries, one of which was rebuilt and put back into service around 2011, sinter plants, blast furnaces fed with coke and pulverised coal injection, steelmaking in both converter and electric arc furnaces, ladle treatment, continuous casting and rolling mills. Annual steel output is around 2.5 million tonnes, mostly long products such as wire rod, sections, rails and seamless tube. The sole shareholder is Moravia Steel a.s. That cycle generates three gases that matter to a handset. Coke oven gas is hydrogen-rich, so a gas group IIC rating is the relevant one. Blast furnace gas is mostly carbon monoxide and nitrogen, and it is toxic and an asphyxiation risk more than a flammability puzzle. The by-product plant that recovers tar, benzol and ammonia from coke oven gas handles benzene, a gas group IIA vapour. On the solids side, coal, coke and ore handling and coal injection give combustible dust areas, which is where Zone 21 and 22 come in.
A works of this kind is noisy, hot and full of heavy vehicles, with gas hazards at specific points rather than everywhere. The points below are the ones that matter most.

Zone 21 dust protection sits in the same certification programme, so a device that has just left a coke oven gas area can carry on into coal handling.
Blast furnace gas and coke oven gas are toxic as well as flammable. Personal gas detectors and rescue procedures remain the protection against that, and the handset works alongside them.
The works covers a large area and there is no charging point in classified zones. The 4,000 mAh battery is specified to carry a shift.
IP68 sealing and rugged build are aimed at dust, vibration and rain. They are not a rating for hot metal splash, which is handled by the operator's PPE rules.
Gas network crews check mains, valves and holders and record a leak with a photograph and a position, rather than a description.
Planned outages bring contractors for refractory, mechanical and instrument work. Enrolment, restriction and wipe are managed from the existing console.
Operators on coal and coke conveyors report faults from the spot, in a dust area, without walking to a safe zone.

No. It is pre-launch and ATEX certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
Coke oven gas is rich in hydrogen, which is gas group IIC, so a handset used around the mains has to be rated for the most demanding group.
It is flammable but mostly a toxicity and asphyxiation risk because of its carbon monoxide. The handset does not protect against that; gas detectors do.
Zone 21 dust is part of the design target, and the certificate will state the exact scope. The works decides which dust areas are classified.
Tell us the site, the zone and gas group, and roughly how many handsets. The SAMS team replies by email with the datasheet and the certification schedule for Czech Republic. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and certification is in progress, so there is no list price yet; indicative pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Tell us the zone, gas group and operator. We will send the datasheet and the certification schedule for your market.
