An explosion proof mobile phone for MERO ČR has to serve a company whose assets are pipe, pumps and tanks rather than process units. Published figures put the Družba pipeline at 357 km within the Czech Republic, reaching Záluží near Litvínov in 1965, with an annual transport capacity of 9 million tonnes. Press reports say Družba deliveries to the Czech Republic stopped in March 2025 and that the refineries now run on crude arriving by the TAL pipeline from Trieste through Germany and onward by IKL. The physical assets remain, so the work is now weighted towards IKL and the tank farm. Crude oil vapour is a gas group IIA hazard, and the classified areas are pumping and metering stations, pig traps, the tank farm and the points where the pipelines meet the refinery fence.
Distance is the defining condition. A route of several hundred kilometres is worked by small crews who spend much of the shift driving between stations that are often unmanned.
