Explosion proof mobile phone for ČEPRO product pipelines

An explosion proof mobile phone for ČEPRO has to do a different job from one for a refinery. ČEPRO moves refined product, not crude, through a nationwide pipeline network feeding fuel storage terminals across the Czech Republic, and the people who keep it running are spread over many small sites rather than gathered on one large one. This page is for the HSE, telecoms and operations staff who decide what a technician may carry into a tank farm or a pump station. The IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety rather than a flameproof enclosure.

Where an explosion proof phone goes on the ČEPRO network

ČEPRO is the Czech state company that owns the country's product pipelines, published at about 1,100 km in length and reversible, so that fuel can be pumped in either direction between nodes. It also stores fuel, including diesel and other products held for the state reserve administration, in tanks at 17 sites across the country. Among the named depots are Loukov near Kroměříž, where four large diesel tanks totalling 140,000 cubic metres were completed, Hněvice near Štětí, where a block of six above-ground tanks of 10 million litres each was added, Šlapanov near Havlíčkův Brod and Třemošná near Plzeň. The classified areas are the ones any fuel depot has: the space around tank roof fittings and floating-roof seals, tank farm bunds, pump houses, pig launchers and receivers, valve pits, and the loading gantries where road and rail tankers are filled. Petrol vapour is a gas group IIA hazard, which an IIC-targeted handset covers with margin.

Operators and counterparties

ČEPRO
State-owned owner and operator of the product pipelines and storage depots.
State reserve administration
Its diesel and fuel reserves are stored in ČEPRO tanks.
Orlen Unipetrol
Refineries at Litvínov and Kralupy that supply product into the system.
MERO ČR
Separate state company moving crude oil; not part of ČEPRO. See explosion proof phone for MERO ČR.
Road tanker hauliers
Collect product at the loading gantries on a daily rhythm.
Tank cleaning and inspection contractors
Specialist crews who work inside and around tanks during planned outages.

Classified units and areas

Tank farms
Storage tanks for petrol, diesel and other products, with bunded areas and roof equipment.
Loading gantries
Road and rail filling points where vapour is released and vapour recovery runs.
Pump houses
Product transfer pumps feeding the pipeline and the tank farm.
Pig traps and valve pits
Launch and receive points where line pressure is opened and closed down.
Built for a spread-out network

What the ČEPRO footprint asks of a handset

A network of this shape is defined by distance and by repetition. The device is carried by one person on a round far more often than by a gang in a shutdown, and the points below come from that pattern.

IP ratingIP68
Battery4,000 mAh
Camera50 MP
OSAndroid 16

Many small sites, one standard

A technician who covers several depots needs the same device behaving the same way at each one. Android 16 with Android Enterprise lets the same policy and the same applications follow the person from Loukov to Hněvice, rather than each depot carrying its own arrangement.

Gas group IIA vapour, with margin

Petrol and diesel vapour sit in the lower gas groups. The design target of II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4 is a broader envelope than the product demands, and the certificate, once issued, will state exactly what it covers. Temperature class T4 is the figure your instrumentation engineer checks against the products stored.

Open-air work in all weather

Tank roofs and gantries have no shelter, and a Czech winter is part of the job. IP68 sealing is aimed at rain, wash-down and spills; the certified ambient range will be set by the certificate and published on the datasheet.

Lone working and rounds

A person walking a tank farm alone needs a way of raising an alarm and of being found. Four-constellation GNSS gives a position on the record, and the managed device can carry whichever lone-worker application your own policy mandates.

Use cases · ČEPRO

Where the IS-04Z1 goes to work.

Operations01

Tank farm and gantry rounds

A shift operator walks the tanks, checks levels and gauges, records a defect and calls the control room. One handset replaces the paper round sheet, the radio and the separate camera.

Maintenance02

Pipeline station call-outs

A fault at a pumping or valve station can mean a long drive to a site with no one on it. Navigation, the work order, photographs and a call back to the planner run on the same device.

Contractors03

Tank cleaning and inspection outages

Contractor crews arrive for a planned tank outage and leave when it ends. Enrolment, restriction to approved applications, wipe and re-issue is the handover cycle the managed-device approach is designed for.

Procurement and access

What suppliers should expect to be asked

We have not found a published equipment-supplier registration scheme for ČEPRO, so none is described here. The sensible order of work is below.

Ask ČEPRO's teams
Procurement and HSE will say what a supplier of equipment for classified areas must provide and which depots are in scope.
Certificate first
The ATEX certificate, the marking string, the instructions and the declaration of conformity are the documents an engineering review starts from. They do not exist yet for the IS-04Z1.
Per-site classification
Each depot has its own hazardous-area classification drawings; the zone and gas group at the point of use are confirmed against those, not assumed.
Questions · ČEPRO

Frequently asked questions

Can ČEPRO use the IS-04Z1 at its depots today?

No. The device is pre-launch and ATEX certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. Nothing should be taken into a classified area before a certificate covering it exists.

Which gas group is petrol vapour, and does the handset cover it?

Petrol and diesel vapour fall in gas group IIA. The design target is IIC, the more demanding group, so the group itself is not the constraint. Temperature class and the site's own classification drawings decide the rest.

Is a loading gantry the same classification as a tank farm?

Not necessarily. Gantries are assessed for vapour released during filling and are often classified differently from the tank bund, so the zone at the gantry should be read from that site's classification drawing.

Ask about the IS-04Z1 for ČEPRO, Czech Republic

Tell us the site, the zone and gas group, and roughly how many handsets. The SAMS team replies by email with the datasheet and the certification schedule for Czech Republic. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and certification is in progress, so there is no list price yet; indicative pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
