Explosion proof mobile phone for TotalEnergies Antwerp

Searching for an explosion proof mobile phone for TotalEnergies Antwerp in Belgium? The Antwerp platform is made up of three production sites that form one integrated refinery and petrochemical complex, processing about 338,000 barrels of crude a day and producing around 1.1 million tonnes of ethylene a year, according to the company's own figures. This page is for the HSE and telecoms teams deciding what may be carried inside it. The IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety rather than a flameproof enclosure.

What is classified on the Antwerp platform

The refinery makes gasoline, LPG, diesel, jet fuel and heavy fuel oil. Its by-products and naphtha then feed the petrochemical side, where steam crackers produce ethylene and propylene, along with C4 fractions and aromatics, and downstream units make polymers including high-density polyethylene. The two halves share utilities, pipelines and people, which is why one handset is expected to work across both. Almost everything in the process areas is a Zone 1 or Zone 2 gas atmosphere, and the cracker furnaces and hydrogen-rich streams make group IIC the sensible planning assumption.

The platform is also changing. According to trade press reports of a company announcement, TotalEnergies intends to close two of its Antwerp steam crackers by 2027 and concentrate on the newest cracker, which also supplies ethylene to its Feluy plants. A change in the number of live crackers shifts where the work is, so equipment plans should be checked with the site for the current layout rather than assumed from older documents.

What an integrated platform does to a explosion proof mobile phone in Belgium

Two kinds of plant in one boundary

A refinery operator and a petrochemical operator hold different permits, but they share roads, pipe racks and emergency services. The IS-04Z1 is designed for Zone 1 gas and Zone 21 dust, so that one managed device can follow a crew from a refinery unit to a polymer area.

Furnaces and temperature class

Cracker furnaces and hot lines make the maximum surface temperature of a carried device a real question. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4, and the T class on the certificate, not the brochure, is what the instrumentation engineer compares with the zoning file.

Changing unit mix

Where units are shut down for good, or crackers are consolidated, crews are redeployed. Android Enterprise management lets the site reassign and re-profile units from its existing console without re-issuing hardware.

Camera control on a Seveso site

A camera is valuable for recording a defect and unwelcome in an unrestricted form. Camera, location and application policy can be set centrally on Android 16, which lets the site show its inspectors what is permitted. The 50 MP camera and GNSS give a located, legible record.

Use cases · TotalEnergies Antwerp

Where the IS-04Z1 goes to work.

Operations01

Cracker and refinery rounds

An outside operator logs readings, photographs a leaking seal and reports it from the unit. The IS-04Z1 is designed so all three can be done inside the Zone 1 boundary.

Turnaround02

Planned stops and decommissioning

Large contractor teams arrive for shutdowns, and unit closures bring isolation and clearance work that must be recorded. A managed handset carries permits and photographs and is returned wiped.

Contractors03

Shared contractors across the cluster

Contractors and inspectors work for several neighbours in the same cluster. A single certificate reference can be written into more than one equipment file, subject to each operator's own decision.

Approval and access

What the site team will ask for

We do not claim any relationship with TotalEnergies, and we cannot publish its internal supplier requirements. A site of this kind will generally ask for the notified body ATEX certificate, the CE marking, the EU declaration of conformity, the gas group and temperature class, and Dutch-language instructions for a Flemish site, and contractors are commonly asked for SCC or VCA safety certification. Ask the operator's procurement and HSE teams for the current requirements before a trial. Certification of the IS-04Z1 is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

Questions · TotalEnergies Antwerp

Frequently asked questions

Is the IS-04Z1 certified for use at TotalEnergies Antwerp yet?

No. The device is pre-launch and ATEX certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No unit will be supplied for a classified area before the certificate covering that use exists.

Does the planned cracker closure change what the site needs?

It changes where the work is, not the basic classification. Equipment plans should rest on the site team's current layout, and this page relies on reports of the announcement, not on a site document.

Does the device cover both refining and petrochemical areas?

The design target is Zone 1 gas, group IIC, T4, plus Zone 21 dust, which spans both. Specific areas such as hydrogen service or a polymer dust zone should be checked against the zoning file and the certificate once it is issued.

Are the TotalEnergies and ExxonMobil Antwerp sites the same?

No. They are separate companies with separate sites and procurement, side by side in the Antwerp cluster. See the page on an explosion proof phone for ExxonMobil Antwerp for that site.
