Operators and contractors such as Bapco Energies, Alba and Banagas need an explosion proof mobile phone they can carry into classified areas at Sitra, Askar and Hidd. The IS-04Z1 is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 duty there.

Bahrain’s summer combines high temperature with heavy coastal humidity, harder on a sealed enclosure than dry heat alone. The ATEX marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4, and the temperature class is the first line an instrumentation engineer checks.
Alba’s potlines generate fine carbon and alumina dust alongside the hydrocarbon gas risk at Sitra, so the same device has to cover Zone 21 and Zone 1 across the two industrial clusters. IP68 sealing is what a shift depends on after a dust event.
Sitra, Hidd and the Al Dur plants all sit on reclaimed coastal land, and salt-laden air is hard on connectors and seams over years of service. rugged build is specified with that exposure in mind, not just drop and vibration.

Conformity in Bahrain runs through the Bahrain Standards and Metrology Directorate (BSMD) under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, which implements the GCC-wide GSO technical regulations that Bahrain shares with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman. For hazardous-area equipment the technical evidence behind that conformity marking is an IECEx Certificate of Conformity, and because this product is a phone it also needs Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) type approval for the radio. None of the three is finished yet.
Getting past the plant gate is a separate exercise from national conformity. Bapco and Alba each run their own approved-vendor and engineering-evaluation process for equipment entering a classified area, and a foreign manufacturer is normally expected to supply through a Bahraini-registered partner who can carry local stock and paperwork. A device can be fully GSO-marked and still be unusable on site until the operator’s own instrumentation or telecoms group has listed it, so plan for two timelines rather than one.

Gas processing and LPG storage sit inside Zone 1 gas atmospheres immediately adjacent to the refinery. Ex ib IIC T4 intrinsic safety covers hydrogen-group service as well as the more common hydrocarbon gases handled on site.
The Hidd complex combines gas-fired generation, desalination and heavy industry in one classified footprint, while the adjoining Sitra Ship Repair Yard adds hot-work and marine hazards. IP68 sealing and full-shift battery life suit both environments equally.
The IS-04Z1 launches in Q4 2026. None of these steps needs a purchase order, and they are ordered so that your approvals and our certification run in parallel.
Give us the zone, gas group and temperature class for the areas a device would enter, plus the operator whose approval you work under. That is enough for us to say plainly where certification stands against your requirement.
You receive the full specification and a written list of the certifications in progress with target dates. An HSE officer can start an equipment selection justification from it and procurement can open a vendor file.
Evaluation units will be offered to Bahraini operators and contractors for handling and enterprise-management trials in safe areas, moving to classified-area pilots once the certificate exists.
Approved-vendor processes at Bapco and Alba favour a locally registered supplier who can hold the BSMD documentation and carry spares close to Sitra and Askar. Evaluation quantities can be supplied directly while that channel is appointed.

We do not publish one. Until certification completes there is no list price and no quoted delivery, and a supplier who gives you a firm figure for an uncertified Ex device is telling you something they cannot support. Pre-launch pricing is available on request against a stated quantity and site.
They are different protection concepts, although the search terms are used interchangeably. Flameproof, written Ex d, contains an explosion inside a heavy enclosure. Intrinsic safety, written Ex ib, limits circuit energy so ignition cannot occur, and that is what a Zone 1 handset uses. The marking target here is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4.

That decision belongs to each operator and follows the certificates rather than preceding them. The IECEx certificate is the evidence their engineering review is built on, and the vendor file is being prepared with a Bahraini partner.

Yes. Android 16 runs the interface in Arabic or English on the same handset and the user manual will be issued in both. Your own site applications keep whatever languages they already use.
A device holding an Ex certificate cannot be opened on site or repaired by a general phone workshop without invalidating it. The service route runs through SAMS and the Bahraini partner it is appointing, with spares pooled near Sitra.
