Tropical coast
The area has a tropical monsoon climate and is reached by the Rio-Santos highway, so ingress protection and travel time both matter.
The municipality covers 816 km2, has a tropical monsoon climate, hilly terrain and more than 300 islands, the largest being Ilha Grande, so many work locations are coastal or island sites. It hosts the Transpetro TEBIG crude oil terminal and the BrasFELS shipyard, so tank-farm, tanker-berth and offshore-unit fabrication hazardous areas are both present. An explosion proof smartphone distributor in Angra dos Reis would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Angra dos Reis has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Angra dos Reis. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
Who operates there and which kinds of classified area a handset would meet, from the SAMS site research.

TEBIG has ten oil tanks totalling 845,557 cubic metres and two piers able to take vessels of up to 500,000 DWT.
Construction of a third unit, Angra 3, began in 1984, was halted in 1986 and again in 2015, and in 2024 the operator Eletronuclear won a court appeal against a municipal work embargo.
The port also has shipbuilding facilities, including the Keppel Fels yard (formerly Verolme, known as BrasFELS), where large offshore units have been assembled and outfitted.
A metre-gauge railway extension from the 1920s still links the port with Minas Gerais and Goias, and the steel company CSN uses the port for some exports.
After final outfitting the P-56 went through testing and adjustment in Ilha Grande Bay before being towed to the Campos Basin, a typical pattern for offshore units completed at Angra dos Reis.
“Explosion proof” is the phrase most buyers use for equipment that may be taken into a classified hazardous area. Strictly, it covers several protection concepts: a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) contains an internal explosion, while intrinsic safety (Ex i) limits electrical energy so that an ignition cannot start. Phones are normally intrinsically safe, because a flameproof handset would be too heavy to carry all shift.
The IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety, with a marking target of Ex ib IIC T4, and is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. It is pre-launch, certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
In Angra dos Reis. At Angra dos Reis the everyday phrase explosion-proof spans oil tank storage, tanker piers with loading arms, and shipyard offshore-unit integration. Fixed equipment may be flameproof Ex d, while a portable handset relies on intrinsic safety. The IS-04Z1 is designed for the intrinsic safety route and is not yet certified.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Angra dos Reis yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
It is intrinsically safe (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), which is the usual way to make a phone for hazardous areas. It is not a flameproof (Ex d) design, and certification is still in progress.
Likely candidates are crude oil tank storage, tanker piers and loading arms, shipyard offshore-unit fabrication and integration, bunker fuel barge supply. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Angra dos Reis.
Often only within the shipyard's own rules. Classified areas on hulls, tanks and process modules are usually managed with permits and gas testing, and devices may need to be certified for the relevant zone. Confirm the zone, gas group and temperature class with the yard before bringing equipment.
Typically the crude oil terminal, tanker berths and offshore-unit outfitting at the shipyard, where flammable gas or vapour can be present. The nuclear plant is controlled separately by its operator, so confirm device rules and zone classification with each site owner.
Ex equipment in Brazil goes through Inmetro-accredited certification bodies, so a purchaser should expect to ask for that route. The IS-04Z1 is not yet certified. Confirm documentation requirements with the site operator and its HSE team before ordering.
