ATEX is the European legal framework for equipment used in explosive atmospheres (Directive 2014/34/EU). IECEx is the international certification scheme built on the IEC 60079 standards. Buyers outside Europe often ask for both: an IECEx certificate is the technical evidence most national regimes build on, while ATEX is the legal route into the European market.
For the IS-04Z1 both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and neither certificate has been issued. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4: equipment Group II (surface industry), Category 2 (Zone 1 gas), protection concept ib (intrinsic safety), gas group IIC and temperature class T4.
In Port of Santos. At the Port of Santos, where Transpetro, Ultracargo, Vopak and Stolthaven run separate terminals, reviewers at each will ask for certificate evidence in their own way. A dual ATEX and IECEx route is designed to help international shipping and inspection firms. The IS-04Z1 has no certificate yet.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Port of Santos yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
Not yet. Both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and no certificate has been issued. Any listing that says otherwise is wrong.
Likely candidates are liquid-bulk fuel and chemical terminals, tank farms, tanker piers and loading arms, lpg handling. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.

Liquid bulk terminals handling fuels, chemicals and ethanol, tank farms, pipelines and vessel loading arms typically have classified zones. Container yards are mostly non-hazardous, so ask each terminal for its area classification before specifying devices.
Santos is the main entry for imported goods, with about 30 percent of national trade by value in some months. Customs clearance, import duties and radio type approval take time, so plan lead time and use a local clearing agent.
Not necessarily. Terminals are operated by separate companies, such as Transpetro, Ultracargo, Vopak and Stolthaven, each with its own procedures. Confirm equipment approval and procurement requirements with each terminal operator before planning a fleet.
