Fuel and gas
Subsidiaries provide fuel storage tank leasing and terminal services (Senoko Services) and gas shipping and retail (Senoko Gas Supply).
Combined-cycle units 6 and 7, rated at 431 megawatts each, were completed by 2012 by repowering the second oil-fired steam stage, while units 3 to 5 at 365 megawatts each followed by 2004. Classified areas centre on the power station's gas systems and on fuel storage tank leasing and terminal services, not on the whole estate. An explosion proof mobile phone distributor in Senoko would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Senoko has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Senoko Industrial Zone. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

Senoko Power Station is a combined cycle plant with a licensed capacity of 2,644 MW and supplies about 20 per cent of Singapore's electricity needs, according to its operator.
Equatorial heat and humidity, with frequent heavy showers, are constant on this northern coast and affect outdoor switchyards, fuel tanks and gas metering stations.
Senoko Power Station is the largest power station in Singapore and was commissioned in 1976, after planning began in the early 1970s under the Public Utilities Board.
Its authorised capacity is 2,800 megawatts from seven operating units, and it runs mainly as a combined-cycle gas plant, so gas-turbine halls and fuel systems form its main classified areas.
Natural gas supplies over 90 percent of Singapore's electricity, up from less than 20 percent in 2000, which is why large gas-fired plants such as Senoko dominate the local hazardous-area picture.
“Explosion proof” is the phrase most buyers use for equipment that may be taken into a classified hazardous area. Strictly, it covers several protection concepts: a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) contains an internal explosion, while intrinsic safety (Ex i) limits electrical energy so that an ignition cannot start. Phones are normally intrinsically safe, because a flameproof handset would be too heavy to carry all shift.
The IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety, with a marking target of Ex ib IIC T4, and is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. It is pre-launch, certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
In Senoko. At a gas and diesel power station the phrase explosion-proof can mislead. Flameproof Ex d housings suit fixed items such as motors and junction boxes, while a handheld phone relies on intrinsic safety to keep energy below ignition level. The IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety, with certification still in progress.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Senoko. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
It is intrinsically safe (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), which is the usual way to make a phone for hazardous areas. It is not a flameproof (Ex d) design, and certification is still in progress.
Likely candidates are power plant gas and fuel systems, fuel storage tanks and terminal services. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Senoko.
No. Classified areas are concentrated at the power station's gas systems and at fuel storage, not across the whole industrial zone. Other tenants may have none at all. Ask the specific site for its area classification drawing before choosing equipment.
Typical examples are gas pressure-reduction and metering stations, gas turbine enclosures, fuel oil storage and pump areas, and battery or hydrogen-related rooms. Most are Zone 2 in normal operation, but Zone 1 can occur around specific equipment, so confirm with the plant.
The plant operator runs its own contractor and equipment approvals, and SAMS has no role in them. Send its procurement and HSE teams the IS-04Z1 datasheet and target marking, noting that certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
