Hydrogen means IIC
Hydrotreaters and crackers have hydrogen in the process, and hydrogen is the most demanding gas group. The marking target for the IS-04Z1 is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4, subject to the certificate.

Heat, salt and sun
Coastal plants combine warm air, salt, and strong sun on pipework. IP68 sealing and the rugged build cover the physical side; the temperature class is checked against the area drawing.
Permits and isolation records
A shutdown runs on permits, isolations and lock-out records. A photograph with a time and a location, taken in the unit, is better evidence than a description written afterwards.

Frequently asked questions
Is the IS-04Z1 certified for refining use in Brazil yet?
No. The device is pre-launch, and IECEx, ATEX and the Brazilian INMETRO certification are in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
Do Petrobras and Acelen have the same vendor process?
No. Acelen is a separate, independently operated company, and each runs its own procurement and engineering review. Ask each directly.
Is hydrogen a problem for a handset?
It is the reason to specify IIC. Hydrogen has a very low ignition energy, so the gas group on the area drawing decides whether a device is suitable.
When is the best time to evaluate a device at a refinery?
Between shutdowns, when safety staff have time. A trial during a parada is possible but needs agreement well before the stop.
