Dust and washdown
Mills and terminals are cleaned with water and compressed air. IP68 sealing and the rugged build are meant to survive both, but washing routines should be agreed with the site.
An explosion proof mobile phone for mining, terminals and biofuels in Brazil covers three industries with very different hazards. Vale's mines and ports, bulk liquid terminals such as Ultracargo's, and the sugar and ethanol mills run by companies such as Raízen are inland and coastal bulk-materials sites where dust and vapour hazards sit side by side. This page is for the HSE and operations teams who set what a person may carry into those areas. The IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety rather than a flameproof enclosure.
Launching Q4 2026 · IECEx dust and gas-rating programme in progress
These three sectors share a feature that oil and gas sites do not: the main hazard is often not gas. Mining and port handling carry fuel and coal dust but, for iron ore itself, little combustible dust. Tank terminals handle flammable liquids, and their classified areas are tank roofs, pump bays and loading arms. Sugar and ethanol mills combine combustible dust with ethanol vapour. For the largest operators there are separate pages on explosion proof phone for Vale and explosion proof phone for Raízen.
Dust, washdown, long distances and shifting contractor crews are the common conditions. The classification of each area still decides what can be carried.

An ethanol mill has Zone 1 gas in the distillery and Zone 21 dust in the sugar plant. The IS-04Z1 design target covers both, so one device can be issued for the whole round.
Sugar and ethanol mills run hardest during the harvest and are overhauled between harvests. Enrolment in an MDM console makes seasonal issue and recovery manageable.
Mines, ports and mills can be far from head office. Four-constellation GNSS records the position of a defect, and remote management through Android Enterprise avoids a site visit for updates.
Training and inspection records under NR-20, NR-10 and, for mining, NR-22 are expected in the working language. The interface runs in Brazilian Portuguese.
An operator checks tank levels, pump bays and manifolds, photographs a leak and sends it to the control room. Vapour is present at vents, so the handset has to be suitable for the zone.
A round passes ethanol columns, a boiler house and a bagasse conveyor. One device for gas and dust avoids swapping handsets at the boundary.
At a pelletising plant or fuel depot, an inspector logs defects with a photograph and a location, and reports to maintenance without leaving the area.
No. The device is pre-launch, and IECEx, ATEX and the Brazilian INMETRO certification are in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The design target is Zone 1 gas and Zone 21 dust. Iron ore itself is not usually a combustible dust, so the classified areas at a mine are typically fuel, coal and process plant. Each site decides its own classification.
A terminal is mainly vapour, with its main risk at tank vents and loading arms. A mill adds dust and fibre. The evidence an operator asks for follows from that.
Ultracargo is named here as an operator of tank farms. Any evaluation would be a direct conversation with its own HSE and procurement teams.
Tell us the site, the zone and gas group, and roughly how many handsets. The SAMS team replies by email with the datasheet and the certification schedule for Brazil. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and certification is in progress, so there is no list price yet; indicative pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Tell us the zone, gas group and operator. We will send the datasheet and the certification schedule for your market.
