Hazardous Area Smartphone Distributor in Brazil Refineries

Under the Strategic Plan 2024-28+ Petrobras budgets 16.7 billion US dollars across refining, transport and marketing, with 9 billion dollars earmarked for refining, which implies a long pipeline of shutdown and revamp work. Petrobras operates about ten refineries in Brazil, including Replan at Paulinia (415,000 barrels a day), Revap at Sao Jose dos Campos and Reduc at Duque de Caxias, each with classified process, storage and loading areas. A hazardous area smartphone distributor in Brazilian refineries would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.

Brazilian refineries: who works there

Of eight refineries once offered for sale, only two were sold (Mataripe and the Manaus refinery), and Petrobras later resumed investing in the rest of its refining park.

Brazilian refineries: logistics and access

The same plan allocates 2.1 billion dollars to remove logistics bottlenecks, including expanding and optimising terminals and transport infrastructure that serve the refineries.

Brazilian refineries: projects and investment

Revamp projects are under way at the Presidente Bernardes (RPBC), Paulinia (Replan) and Duque de Caxias (Reduc) refineries, with hydroprocessing units planned at Revap and Refap.

Brazilian refineries: who works there

Petrobras' REPLAN refinery at Paulinia, Sao Paulo, is the largest in Brazil at 434,000 barrels per day, and the 208,000 b/d REPAR refinery at Araucaria, Parana, is another major site in the 2024-28 plan.

The term · hazardous area

What “hazardous area” means for a smartphone

A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.

No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.

In Brazilian refineries. This grouping covers about ten Petrobras refineries, so classified areas include process units, crude and product tank farms, loading racks and jetties, hydrotreater and hydrogen units, and flare and wastewater areas. Each refinery operator classifies its own plant. SAMS does not classify any area.

The route · distribution

Distributing the IS-04Z1 in Brazil Refineries

SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Brazilian refineries yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Questions · Brazil Refineries

Frequently asked questions

Can we buy a hazardous area smartphone in Brazil Refineries today?

No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.

What does a hazardous area smartphone in Brazil Refineries cost?

SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.

Which hazardous areas is the IS-04Z1 designed for?

Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.

Which areas at Brazilian refineries would use it?

Likely candidates are refinery process units, crude and product tank farms, loading racks and jetties, hydrotreater and hydrogen units. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.

How do I become a SAMS distributor for Brazilian refineries?

Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Brazilian refineries.

What zone classifications typically apply inside a refinery process unit?

Process units, pump areas, tank farms, loading racks and sample points commonly contain Zone 1 or Zone 2 gas areas, often gas group IIA or IIB with hydrogen areas in IIC. The refinery's area classification drawings are the authority, so request them before specifying handheld devices.

Which Brazilian refineries are the busiest for new project work?

Current plans point to Replan, Repar, Regap, Reduc, RPBC and Abreu e Lima, with revamps, hydroprocessing and sustainable fuels projects announced. Timelines can shift, so treat them as indicative and confirm scope and schedule with the operator or its main contractors.

Do all Brazilian refineries buy in the same way?

No. Petrobras has sold some refineries, for example RLAM in Bahia and Reman in Manaus, so procurement rules differ by owner. Purchasing is usually through registered-supplier processes. Confirm equipment approval and documentation requirements with the site operator and its HSE team.
