Urban setting
The refinery sits in the dense Rio metropolitan area with road links to the city and airport.
Petrobras has installed a reverse osmosis system supplied by SETA to treat and reuse refinery effluents, an example of the water-management projects that run alongside normal operations. It hosts the Petrobras Duque de Caxias refinery (Reduc), which started up in 1961, so refining and gas-processing units create Zone 1 areas. A hazardous area mobile phone distributor in Duque de Caxias would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Duque de Caxias has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Duque de Caxias. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
Who operates there and which kinds of classified area a handset would meet, from the SAMS site research.
The refinery sits in the dense Rio metropolitan area with road links to the city and airport.
Reduc makes more than 40 products and has a stated capacity of 239,000 barrels a day.
The Duque de Caxias refinery (Reduc) has operated since 1961, ranks among Brazil's largest by crude capacity, and supplies about 80 percent of the country's lubricants while leading natural gas processing.
The Duque de Caxias refinery complex covers about 13 square kilometres beside Rodovia Washington Luis in the Campos Eliseos district, making it a very large industrial site inside the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area.
Reduc is listed among the Petrobras refineries receiving modernisation (revamp) projects in the company's refining investment portfolio, alongside Replan and the Presidente Bernardes refinery.
Reduc sells about 55 different products, the most of any Petrobras refinery, from diesel, jet fuel and asphalt to LPG, paraffins, lubricants, coke and sulphur, so many hazardous product streams are handled on site.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Duque de Caxias. Reduc has refinery process units, tank farms and pipelines, loading and dispatch areas, and biofuel (SAF and renewable diesel) processing, with Petrobras as operator. Petrobras classifies the areas; SAMS does not. A multi-product site means more than one product and classification may sit side by side.
A distributor for Duque de Caxias would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.
Likely candidates are refinery process units, tank farms and pipelines, loading and dispatch areas, biofuel (saf and renewable diesel) processing. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Duque de Caxias.
Typically choose a device with the right zone, gas group and temperature class, carry its certificate, and confirm local radio approval requirements. Many sites also require induction and an approved-equipment check at the gate, so allow time for that.
Lubricant plants and gas processing mean both flammable liquids and flammable gases can occur, sometimes with hydrocarbon vapours near ambient temperature. Ask the operator for the applicable gas groups; do not assume one device rating covers every unit.
Maintenance shutdowns of the coking and hydrotreating units are scheduled in 2026, which brings large contractor numbers into classified areas. Plan lead times early. Certification is in progress, so confirm schedules and requirements with the site operator and its HSE team.
