Explosion proof mobile phone for Cheniere Energy in the United States

An explosion proof mobile phone for Cheniere Energy in the United States has to work at two Gulf Coast liquefaction sites: Sabine Pass in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, and Corpus Christi in San Patricio County, Texas. This page is for operations, HSE and telecoms teams at those terminals and for the contractors who keep expanding them. The IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety rather than a flameproof enclosure.

Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi, site by site

Sabine Pass Liquefaction in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, has six operating trains with a combined capacity of about 30 million tonnes a year, fed by the Creole Trail Pipeline. Cheniere has filed with FERC for a Stage 5 expansion there, designed for roughly 20 million tonnes a year, with a new 48-inch feed pipeline of about 5.3 miles from Jefferson County, Texas. That expansion is a proposal, not a built plant. Corpus Christi Liquefaction sits on the La Quinta Ship Channel on the north shore of Corpus Christi Bay, on a site of about 1,000 acres. It began with three trains of roughly 5 million tonnes a year each, and the Stage 3 expansion, sanctioned in June 2022, adds seven midscale trains of about 1.49 million tonnes a year each, the first of which began producing LNG in December 2024. Two further midscale trains are under construction for 2028. Gas arrives through Cheniere’s own 21.5-mile, 48-inch pipeline from near Sinton, which connects to Tennessee Gas, Tejas, Transco, NGPL and Enterprise systems.

Facilities

Sabine Pass trains 1 to 6
Pre-treatment, liquefaction, storage tanks and marine berths on the Louisiana side of the Sabine-Neches channel.
Creole Trail Pipeline
Feed gas link between the terminal and interstate and intrastate pipelines.
Corpus Christi trains 1 to 3
The original three trains, each about 5 million tonnes a year.
Corpus Christi Stage 3
Seven midscale trains built in parallel, a construction-heavy site for several years.
Corpus Christi Pipeline
A 21.5-mile feed line with meter and compressor interconnects.
Marine terminals
Loading berths and tug and pilot operations where LNG carriers call.

Hazardous-area conditions

Methane and light gas
Natural gas is group IIA; the refrigerant circuits add hydrocarbons such as ethylene, group IIB.
Cryogenic liquid
LNG spills and cold surfaces are a separate hazard that gloves and procedure address, not a phone.
Compressor and turbine halls
Noise, vibration and gas detection with limited room for walking.
Open, exposed sites
Coastal wind, salt air and Gulf storms.
Large construction workforce
Stage 3 and expansion work puts many contractors beside live trains.
Tight access control
Marine security rules also govern who and what enters the terminal.

What a liquefaction terminal asks of a handset

A liquefaction site is compact, heavily instrumented and very high-consequence. It is also a place where a new train is often being built next to one that is running.

OSAndroid 16

Commissioning beside live trains

When new trains are being tied in, one fence encloses both construction and operations. Android Enterprise management lets an owner issue a different profile to commissioning crews than to operators, and withdraw it when the work ends.

Gas detection pairing, not gas detection replacement

A handset on an LNG terminal should sit beside the personal gas monitor, not stand in for it. Bluetooth pairing to a detector is part of the design intent and the detector still carries its own certification.

Photographs for inspection records

A 50 MP camera produces an image of a gland, a flange or a tag that is clear enough to attach to a work order, and a console setting can disable the camera in areas where photography is restricted.

Wind, salt and water

Both terminals sit at the coast. IP68 construction is designed for rain, washdown and dust, and the 4,000 mAh battery is specified to last a shift without a trip back to the safe area.

Approvals · Cheniere

What Cheniere’s teams would reasonably ask

We have not verified a Cheniere vendor-registration route and do not describe one. LNG terminals sit under FERC siting and PHMSA safety rules, plus the operator’s own standards, so the questions are about evidence.

Marking01

Matching the label to the area drawing

Ask the terminal’s electrical authority which classified areas the device must enter and whether they are drawn in Class and Division or zone terms.

Contractors02

Construction crews and operations in one fence

Decide whether contractors are issued managed handsets or bring their own, and whether construction and operating areas use different policies.

Service03

Spares near the Gulf Coast

Agree where spare units and chargers are held and who is allowed to open or repair a certified device.

Questions · Cheniere

Explosion proof mobile phone questions for United States

Does SAMS work with Cheniere?

No. SAMS has no order, pilot or supply relationship with Cheniere. This page uses Cheniere’s published site information to describe what an LNG terminal asks of a handset.

Is Stage 5 at Sabine Pass already built?

No. It is a proposal that Cheniere has submitted to FERC. It is mentioned here because expansion work, if approved, would bring a new contractor population to a site that already has one.

Is a phone allowed near a cryogenic spill area?

Only if the area classification and the site rules say so, and only a device certified for that area. Cryogenic hazards are separate from ignition risk; the operator’s procedures govern both.
