Explosion proof mobile phone for ports and industrial zones in Oman

Oman's industrial zones at Duqm, Sohar and Salalah concentrate fuel storage, bulk liquid terminals and heavy industry on the coast. An explosion proof mobile phone for ports and industry in Oman is for tank farms, jetties and the contractors who build and maintain them. The IS-04Z1 is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 duty there. The IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety rather than a flameproof enclosure.

What an explosion proof mobile phone meets in Oman's ports and zones

Duqm is a special economic zone on the central coast with a new port, the OQ8 refinery and the Ras Markaz crude storage terminal, which supplies the refinery through a long pipeline. Sohar Port and Freezone on the Batinah coast carries petrochemicals, methanol, metals and independent tank terminals (see explosion proof phone for Sohar). Salalah has a free zone that includes methanol and ammonia production. The common ground is tankage and transfer: crude, products and chemicals move between ship and tank through manifolds and hoses, and bulk handling puts dust areas beside gas areas. Unlike a single refinery, each zone has many separate operators, each with its own permit system, security gate and equipment rules, and a contractor may work for several in a week. Construction is continuing in the newer zones, so a large share of the workforce is project crew rather than permanent operators. Terminal staff, surveyors and port authority inspectors work in the same areas under different employers.

What port zones do to a handset

Port estates are large, windy and salty, and shift patterns follow ship arrivals rather than office hours.

Salt and humidity

Quays and tank farms sit on the sea. IP68 sealing and a rugged build are specified for that exposure.

Ship-driven working hours

Transfers start when the vessel arrives. A full-shift 4,000 mAh battery matters when there is no charging at the manifold.

Many tenants, one device

A zone with many operators benefits from one specification that each can enrol into its own MDM.

Evidence at the manifold

A 50 MP camera and four-constellation GNSS record a disputed quantity or a damaged hose immediately.

Gas and dust

Zone 1 and Zone 21 design targets cover tanks and bulk handling with one device.

Wind and open ground

Quays and tank farms are exposed, with sand carried in from the surrounding land. IP68 sealing keeps ports and seams clear of it, and a sealed body needs no cover or case to be used in the open.

Terminals01

Tank farm rounds

Operators walk tank farms checking vents, levels and pumps, recording each with a photograph and position.

Marine02

Transfers at the jetty

Terminal and surveyor staff on a jetty during transfer need a call, a camera and the procedure on one device, subject to terminal rules.

Construction03

New plant in the zones

New tenants bring construction and commissioning crews. Central enrolment issues and recovers a fleet per contractor, and each tenant can keep its own policy, apps and camera rules on the units it has issued.

Questions · Ports & Industry

Frequently asked questions

Is the IS-04Z1 certified for use in Oman's industrial zones yet?

No. The device is pre-launch and certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

Can it be used on a jetty?

It is designed for Zone 1, but whether it is allowed on a particular jetty is for the terminal operator after the certificate exists.

Do tenants need separate procurement?

Each tenant buys for itself, but a single device specification means each can reuse the same datasheet and certificate documents in its own review rather than starting again.

Does one device suit many tenants?

It enrols into any Android Enterprise MDM, so each tenant can manage its own units.

Where is the refining side covered?

Refinery and LNG operations are covered on the LNG and downstream page, and the oil and gas operators on the oil and gas page.

Who handles repair?

A certified device cannot be opened by a general workshop without invalidating the certificate. Repair and battery replacement run through SAMS and the Omani partner it is appointing.
