Pipelines
The Ruwais refinery connects to three jetties on the Gulf and a pipeline network of more than 1,600 km across the emirate for distributing fuels.
ADNOC's Ruwais complex in Abu Dhabi's Al Dhannah area is the biggest refinery in the Middle East, with Ruwais Refinery East rated at over 922,000 barrels a day and Ruwais Refinery West at up to 417,000. Process units, tank farms and jetties are classified areas. A rugged smartphone distributor in UAE refineries would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. UAE refineries has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in UAE Refineries. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

ADNOC's older Abu Dhabi Refinery on Umm Al Nar Island, which processed up to 85,000 barrels a day, was shut in 2022 as ADNOC focused its downstream strategy on Ruwais.
One published refinery list gives the Jebel Ali refinery a capacity of 140,000 barrels a day, showing that it is a mid-sized plant compared with the Ruwais complex.
ADNOC's Ruwais Refinery East can process up to 922,000 barrels a day of crude and condensate, the largest refinery in the Middle East, and is closely integrated with other plants in the Ruwais industrial area.
The same list shows smaller Fujairah plants of 80,000, 7,500 and 70,000 barrels a day, so refining sites are scattered across the east coast as well as the Gulf.
Outside Abu Dhabi, the Jebel Ali refinery in Dubai is run by ENOC Processing Company, a subsidiary of ENOC, the Dubai government's energy group established in 1993.
A rugged phone is built to survive water, dust, drops and rough handling, usually rated by an IP code and a drop specification. Ruggedness is an environmental property: it says nothing about whether a phone may be used where flammable gas or dust is present. That is decided by explosion-protection certification and marking.
The IS-04Z1 combines both: an IP68 sealed rugged build and a design for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4). The explosion-protection certificates are in progress and none has been issued.
In UAE refineries. The Gulf coast is hot and humid, so outdoor equipment should resist heat and salt air. Dust and spray are routine around jetties. IP68 helps with ingress, but it is not explosion protection, which depends on the Ex marking and the certificate of the device.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for UAE refineries yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
It is designed to IP68 sealing, with glove-friendly controls. Ruggedness is not explosion protection: that depends on the certificates, which are in progress.
Likely candidates are refinery process units, tank farms, loading jetties and gantries, product pipelines. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for UAE refineries.
A splitter typically produces mostly naphtha and jet fuel, which are light, volatile and easily ignited, so flammable vapour is the main concern. That usually means gas classification around pumps, tanks and loading areas; the operator sets the zones and gas group.
One published list gives Jebel Ali about 140,000 barrels a day, against several hundred thousand for the Ruwais complex. Smaller plants can mean fewer units on site, but hazards per unit are similar, and each has its own rules for contractors.
The Gulf coast is hot and humid, and outdoor equipment should resist heat and salt air. The IS-04Z1 is designed to IP68 with a 4,000 mAh battery, but heat and salt limits are not published. Ask for the datasheet and agree outdoor-use conditions with the operator.
