Offshore logistics
Equipment and crews move by supply vessel and helicopter, so spares and replacements need planning.
This is a regional grouping of offshore production platforms and FPSOs in Brazilian waters, mainly in the Campos and Santos basins. In 2000 Petrobras set a world record for deepwater exploration at 1,877 metres below sea level, and Brazilian offshore units have since moved into progressively deeper water. An intrinsically safe mobile phone distributor in Brazilian offshore oil platforms would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Brazilian offshore oil platforms has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Brazil Oil Platforms. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The companies on site and the hazardous-area types a handset is likely to meet there.
Equipment and crews move by supply vessel and helicopter, so spares and replacements need planning.
Salt air, heat and humidity are routine, so enclosure ratings and corrosion resistance matter.
Petrobras describes itself as producing about 2.99 million barrels of oil equivalent a day in 2025, and Brazil accounted for roughly 92 percent of its worldwide production in 2014.
Under an ANP decision Petrobras operates several subsalt blocks and keeps a minimum 30 percent equity share in future licences, so most platform work still flows through Petrobras contractor procedures.
Petrobras reported that 62.7 percent of its Brazilian proved developed reserves in 2014 were in the offshore Campos Basin, which explains the large fleet of platforms off Rio de Janeiro state.
Petrobras was created in 1953 with a legal monopoly, and a 1997 law ended that monopoly and set up the national petroleum agency ANP as the regulator and supervisor of the industry.
Intrinsic safety limits the electrical and thermal energy in a circuit so that neither a spark nor a hot surface can ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even when a fault occurs. The ib level, used for Zone 1, tolerates one fault. It is the usual way to make a handheld device that a worker carries continuously through a hazardous area.
The IS-04Z1 is designed on this principle for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4). Intrinsic safety is a design basis, not a certificate: certification is in progress and none has been issued yet.
In Brazilian offshore oil platforms. Daily platform rounds across decks, wellheads and compression areas favour a handheld that does not need a hot-work permit for casual use. An intrinsically safe device is designed to stay safe in a hydrocarbon atmosphere. The IS-04Z1 is designed for such rounds, subject to final certification.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Brazilian offshore oil platforms. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
The circuits are designed to limit energy so a spark or hot surface cannot ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even with one fault (level ib, Zone 1). Certification of that design is in progress.
Likely candidates are oil and gas process modules, wellhead areas, gas compression, cargo tanks and offloading areas. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Brazilian offshore oil platforms.
Typically wellhead, process, gas compression, separator and some tank and drilling areas, along with parts of the helideck fuel area. Exact zones, gas groups and temperature classes come from the platform's classification drawings, so confirm them with the operator before taking a device out.
Rules are set by the operator and are usually strict: personal devices are often restricted to accommodation areas, and field devices normally must hold certification for the relevant zone. Check the induction material and ask the safety team which devices are permitted in each area.
Each operator, including Petrobras, Prio, Shell, Trident Energy, Brava Energia and Perenco, applies its own rules on portable devices and approvals. Ask each one for its Ex equipment policy rather than assuming a common standard applies. Confirm with the site operator before any order.
