Large terminal
TEBIG has ten oil tanks totalling 845,557 cubic metres and two piers able to take vessels of up to 500,000 DWT.
Angra dos Reis is a municipality in the south of Rio de Janeiro state on Ilha Grande bay. It hosts the Transpetro TEBIG crude oil terminal and the BrasFELS shipyard, so tank-farm, tanker-berth and offshore-unit fabrication hazardous areas are both present. If you are specifying an industrial mobile phone for Angra dos Reis, this page covers the markings, the approvals and the current certification status of the IS-04Z1.

BrasFELS covers 52 hectares with dry docks and gantry cranes of 660 and 2,000 tonnes, and has worked on FPSO topside modules.
The port also has shipbuilding facilities, including the Keppel Fels yard (formerly Verolme, known as BrasFELS), where large offshore units have been assembled and outfitted.
A metre-gauge railway extension from the 1920s still links the port with Minas Gerais and Goias, and the steel company CSN uses the port for some exports.
After final outfitting the P-56 went through testing and adjustment in Ilha Grande Bay before being towed to the Campos Basin, a typical pattern for offshore units completed at Angra dos Reis.
Brazil's Angra I and Angra II nuclear units are located near the town and employ about 3,000 people, with a further 10,000 indirect jobs in Rio de Janeiro state.
“Industrial” describes a phone built for plant conditions: sealed, drop-resistant and manageable at fleet scale through Android Enterprise. It does not by itself mean the phone may enter a classified area. Only a device with a valid explosion-protection certificate and marking may do that.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to be both an industrial Android phone (IP68, 4,000 mAh battery, 50 MP camera, Android 16 with EMM and MDM support) and an intrinsically safe one. Its explosion-protection certificates are in progress and have not been issued.
In Angra dos Reis. Yard and terminal fleets mix permanent staff with contractors, so enrolling handsets in an EMM or MDM system lets each company manage its own. The Rio-Santos highway is the main access, so spare devices and chargers are best planned in advance. Charging would be done in a safe area.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
Yes by design: IP68 sealing, a 4,000 mAh battery, a 50 MP camera and Android 16 with EMM and MDM support. The explosion-protection certificates are separate and still in progress.
Likely candidates are crude oil tank storage, tanker piers and loading arms, shipyard offshore-unit fabrication and integration, bunker fuel barge supply. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
Yes, typically. A tropical monsoon climate and sea air mean high humidity and salt, so look for sealed housings, corrosion-resistant connectors and tidy cable or charging practice. Confirm with the site safety officer what ingress protection level their permit-to-work process expects.
Access is generally by boat across the Bay of Ilha Grande, with many of the 300-plus islands reachable only by sea, and some units are later towed to the Campos Basin. Confirm boarding and carry-on rules for powered devices with the vessel operator.
Rain, humidity and salt air are routine, so check enclosure rating, seal condition and charging contacts regularly. IP68 resists water and dust but is not explosion protection. Because ingress protection and travel time both matter on this coast, keep a spare device ready.
