Tropical coast
The area has a tropical monsoon climate and is reached by the Rio-Santos highway, so ingress protection and travel time both matter.
A metre-gauge railway extension from the 1920s still links the port with Minas Gerais and Goias, and the steel company CSN uses the port for some exports. It hosts the Transpetro TEBIG crude oil terminal and the BrasFELS shipyard, so tank-farm, tanker-berth and offshore-unit fabrication hazardous areas are both present. A hazardous area mobile phone distributor in Angra dos Reis would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Angra dos Reis has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Angra dos Reis. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of the site and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
The area has a tropical monsoon climate and is reached by the Rio-Santos highway, so ingress protection and travel time both matter.
TEBIG has ten oil tanks totalling 845,557 cubic metres and two piers able to take vessels of up to 500,000 DWT.
Brazil's Angra I and Angra II nuclear units are located near the town and employ about 3,000 people, with a further 10,000 indirect jobs in Rio de Janeiro state.
The port of Angra dos Reis includes an oil terminal, and the TEBIG facility used by Petrobras in the Bay of Ilha Grande moves large quantities of crude oil, which makes it one of the busiest ports in Brazil.
The semisubmersible platform P-56 was integrated at BrasFELS: about 54,658 tonnes, living quarters for 200 people, 79 risers and a power plant of 100 MW, built with a 72.9 percent domestic content index for its topside.
The municipality covers 816 km2, has a tropical monsoon climate, hilly terrain and more than 300 islands, the largest being Ilha Grande, so many work locations are coastal or island sites.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Angra dos Reis. The classified areas present here are crude tank storage, tanker piers and loading arms, bunker fuel barge supply, and shipyard offshore-unit fabrication. Transpetro and Seatrium respectively classify them; SAMS does not. Operators decide where a handset may go, and the answer may differ between terminal and yard.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Angra dos Reis. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.
Likely candidates are crude oil tank storage, tanker piers and loading arms, shipyard offshore-unit fabrication and integration, bunker fuel barge supply. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Angra dos Reis.
Often only within the shipyard's own rules. Classified areas on hulls, tanks and process modules are usually managed with permits and gas testing, and devices may need to be certified for the relevant zone. Confirm the zone, gas group and temperature class with the yard before bringing equipment.
Typically the crude oil terminal, tanker berths and offshore-unit outfitting at the shipyard, where flammable gas or vapour can be present. The nuclear plant is controlled separately by its operator, so confirm device rules and zone classification with each site owner.
Ex equipment in Brazil goes through Inmetro-accredited certification bodies, so a purchaser should expect to ask for that route. The IS-04Z1 is not yet certified. Confirm documentation requirements with the site operator and its HSE team before ordering.
