Seatrium yards
Seatrium lists Singapore yards at Admiralty, Benoi, Pioneer, Tuas and Tuas Boulevard, with headquarters at 80 Tuas South Boulevard.
Repair and upgrade scope at the Singapore yards covers gas carriers (LNG and LPG), floating production units, jack-ups and semi-submersibles, and jumboisation or dejumboisation, each with different tank and gas-freeing routines. Repair, conversion and newbuild work on tanks, cargo spaces and paint areas creates Zone 1 conditions. If you are specifying an IECEx smartphone for Keppel Shipyard (now Seatrium yards), Singapore, this page covers the markings, the approvals and the current certification status of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for Keppel Shipyard (now Seatrium yards), Singapore: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

Seatrium lists Singapore yards at Admiralty, Benoi, Pioneer, Tuas and Tuas Boulevard, with headquarters at 80 Tuas South Boulevard.
Seatrium describes itself as formed from the 2023 merger of Sembcorp Marine and Keppel Offshore & Marine, so older descriptions of Keppel-run yards are out of date.
Seatrium's Singapore yards include Admiralty, Benoi, Pioneer, Tuas and Tuas Boulevard, plus the offshore-focused Crescent and Pandan yards, so contractors may work at several sites in one project.
The yards are spread widely: Admiralty Yard is on Admiralty Road West in the north, while Benoi, Pioneer, Tuas and Tuas Boulevard yards sit in the industrial west of the island.
Pioneer Yard offers a 1,400 metre quay with 8 to 10 metres of depth, and Crescent Yard has a 740 metre quay with 6 metres of depth, supporting several vessels alongside at once.
In 2015 Keppel Shipyard secured an FPSO conversion worth 89 million dollars covering repair, upgrade and modification, with completion expected in the third quarter of 2016.
IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In Keppel Shipyard (now Seatrium yards), Singapore. Ship owners, classification bodies and visiting contractors at the yards are international, so IECEx is a convenient reference for gas-free work on tanks and cargo spaces. The certificate of conformity and schedule of conditions would be reviewed. For the IS-04Z1 these remain targets, as certification is in progress.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.
Likely candidates are vessel tank and cargo spaces, offshore unit conversion, paint and solvent areas, dry dock work. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
Conversion projects involve large process and tank systems that become classified areas when commissioned, while repair work is more tank-by-tank and short term. Expect tighter control of electronics on conversion hulls close to hydrocarbon systems. The vessel owner and yard HSE team set the rules for each project.
Keppel's offshore and marine yards are now part of Seatrium, formed in 2023 from Sembcorp Marine and Keppel Offshore and Marine. Former Keppel yard sites in Singapore are now listed under Seatrium, so use that name when registering for contractor access or supplier approval.
No. Seatrium was formed in 2023 and Keppel's yards now operate under it, and the Gul yard was sold to ST Engineering. Use current names when contacting yards. Details of individual Seatrium yards were not verified, so ask the company which yard serves your project.
