Industrial use
Tuas was resettled in the 1970s and developed for industry; heavy industry is present, though less than on Jurong Island.
Tuas is a largely industrial planning area of 47.7 square kilometres in far western Singapore, with shipyards, heavy industry, a chemicals hub and the new Tuas Port. Classified areas arise mainly at shipyards, dangerous-goods chemical handling and process plants. An IECEx mobile phone distributor in Tuas would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.

IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In Tuas. With the Tuas Megaport and shipyards drawing international vessels and visiting contractors, IECEx paperwork is a familiar reference. A certificate of conformity plus schedule of conditions is what they would ask for. The IS-04Z1 has neither yet, as certification is in progress.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Tuas. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.
Likely candidates are shipyard and drydock work, dangerous-goods chemical blending and storage, fabrication and coating shops. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Tuas.
Mostly shipyards, chemical and fuel handling sites, a renewable diesel plant and waste-to-energy facilities. Classified areas are limited to specific plants rather than the whole zone, so ask each tenant for its area classification.
Yes. The port will grow in phases through the 2040s and PSA plans to relocate city terminals into it, so traffic and construction will increase. Contractors should check gate and escort rules with the host site.
No. Classified areas arise mainly at shipyards, fuel and chemical handling and process plants, and which tenants have them has not been verified individually. Ask each tenant for its area classification, and confirm with the site operator.
