Capacity
The Dumai crude unit is quoted at about 120,000 barrels per day within the 170,000 total; figures vary slightly by source.
Dumai, on the Riau coast of Sumatra, hosts Pertamina's Refinery Unit II, with Dumai and Sungai Pakning sites and a combined capacity reported at 170,000 barrels per day. Dumai's crude capacity is quoted at between roughly 127,000 and 170,000 barrels a day depending on the source, which places it among Indonesia's larger refineries. This page explains what to look for in an explosion proof smartphone for Dumai Refinery, Riau, and where the IS-04Z1 stands against that list today.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for Dumai Refinery, Riau: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Dumai Refinery. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
Who operates there and which kinds of classified area a handset would meet, from the SAMS site research.
The Dumai crude unit is quoted at about 120,000 barrels per day within the 170,000 total; figures vary slightly by source.
Hot, humid equatorial conditions with rain through the year.
Dumai lies about 188 km from Pekanbaru and is connected to the Trans-Sumatra Highway and toll road; Pinang Kampai Airport has daily domestic flights to Jakarta, Pekanbaru, Medan and Batam.
The Dumai refinery has operated since 1971, and the Putri Tujuh Dumai and Sungai Pakning refineries together have supplied fuel to Sumatra and contributed to regional development in Riau.
The refinery generates the power it needs from natural gas supplied by fields in South Sumatra and Jambi, including Grissik, Bentu and Jambi Merang, which cuts its fuel cost by about 40 percent.
Dumai is on the coast of Riau Province in Sumatra and supplies the island with gasoline, aviation fuel, diesel, kerosene and LPG, so it is a regional distribution hub as well as a processing site.
“Explosion proof” is the phrase most buyers use for equipment that may be taken into a classified hazardous area. Strictly, it covers several protection concepts: a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) contains an internal explosion, while intrinsic safety (Ex i) limits electrical energy so that an ignition cannot start. Phones are normally intrinsically safe, because a flameproof handset would be too heavy to carry all shift.
The IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety, with a marking target of Ex ib IIC T4, and is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. It is pre-launch, certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
In Dumai Refinery, Riau. Across Dumai's process units, tank farms and jetties, explosion-proof is everyday shorthand. Flameproof Ex d serves fixed equipment, whereas a handheld carried between units relies on intrinsic safety. Products such as LPG and jet fuel are classified by the operator, who decides the accepted concept.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
It is intrinsically safe (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), which is the usual way to make a phone for hazardous areas. It is not a flameproof (Ex d) design, and certification is still in progress.
Likely candidates are refinery process units, crude and product tank farms, marine loading jetties. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
Green coke is a petroleum-coke product, and fine carbon dust can be combustible and conductive. Where it is handled, sites may classify combustible-dust zones, so ask the operator whether your handset needs a dust-rated device and how often it must be cleaned.
Dumai is a coastal port city in Riau Province, so sea freight is practical, and many visitors fly to Pekanbaru and continue by road. Plan for customs clearance in Indonesia and a site gate check, and confirm lead times with your freight agent.
Equatorial heat and rain through the year affect battery performance and seals, so check the rated operating range and charging arrangements. Charge only in safe areas. Rain protection does not equal explosion protection. Confirm the permitted device list with the operator.
