Two sites
Fortune Indonesia reports the unit has been operating since 1971 and spans Dumai and Sungai Pakning, with products including LPG, jet fuel, diesel and green coke.
Dumai, on the Riau coast of Sumatra, hosts Pertamina's Refinery Unit II, with Dumai and Sungai Pakning sites and a combined capacity reported at 170,000 barrels per day. Crude processing, storage and marine loading create Zone 1 areas. A rugged mobile phone distributor in Dumai Refinery, Riau would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Dumai Refinery, Riau has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Dumai Refinery. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

Fortune Indonesia reports the unit has been operating since 1971 and spans Dumai and Sungai Pakning, with products including LPG, jet fuel, diesel and green coke.
The Dumai crude unit is quoted at about 120,000 barrels per day within the 170,000 total; figures vary slightly by source.
The refinery generates the power it needs from natural gas supplied by fields in South Sumatra and Jambi, including Grissik, Bentu and Jambi Merang, which cuts its fuel cost by about 40 percent.
Dumai is on the coast of Riau Province in Sumatra and supplies the island with gasoline, aviation fuel, diesel, kerosene and LPG, so it is a regional distribution hub as well as a processing site.
Dumai's crude capacity is quoted at between roughly 127,000 and 170,000 barrels a day depending on the source, which places it among Indonesia's larger refineries.
Products include aviation turbine fuel, fuel oil, diesel, kerosene, solvents, LPG and green coke, so both flammable vapour and petroleum-coke dust may need consideration in area classification.
A rugged phone is built to survive water, dust, drops and rough handling, usually rated by an IP code and a drop specification. Ruggedness is an environmental property: it says nothing about whether a phone may be used where flammable gas or dust is present. That is decided by explosion-protection certification and marking.
The IS-04Z1 combines both: an IP68 sealed rugged build and a design for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4). The explosion-protection certificates are in progress and none has been issued.
In Dumai Refinery, Riau. Dumai sits on the Riau coast in an equatorial climate, so heat, humidity and rain are routine, with sea air at the jetties. IP68 helps with dust and water but is not explosion protection, which must be assessed against each classified area.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Dumai Refinery, Riau. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
It is designed to IP68 sealing, with glove-friendly controls. Ruggedness is not explosion protection: that depends on the certificates, which are in progress.
Likely candidates are refinery process units, crude and product tank farms, marine loading jetties. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Dumai Refinery, Riau.
Dumai is Pertamina's Refinery Unit II and its Sungai Pakning site is managed with it. Contractors and equipment suppliers usually register through Pertamina vendor processes and the unit's own safety induction, so confirm current requirements with the refinery.
National plans to upgrade the biggest refineries mean new process areas and construction activity beside operating units. Contractors in new areas typically follow the project's hazardous-area drawings, so check the classification for your specific work front rather than assuming existing plant limits.
The unit covers Dumai and Sungai Pakning, and each site has its own areas and drawings. Rules for devices are set by Pertamina, but practical details may differ. Ask the operator for requirements covering both sites. Confirm with the site operator.
