Hydrogen
A hydrogen shipment centre began operating at the Daesan plant in November 2025.
Upgrades completed by 2021 lifted Daesan capacity to about 1.5 million tonnes a year of ethylene and 1.1 million of propylene, and let the plant also crack propane. HD Hyundai Oilbank, which is headquartered in Seosan, and the merged H&L Advanced petrochemical business operate there, so process areas are Zone 1 and Zone 2. Distribution partners for Daesan are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Daesan has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Daesan. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

HD Hyundai Chemical absorbed Lotte Chemical's Daesan unit to form H&L Advanced, launched at the Daesan plant on 4 September 2026.
The Daesan refining and petrochemical platform is a 50/50 joint venture between Hanwha and TotalEnergies, commissioned in 1991 and covering about 3.3 million square metres, making fuels and polymers on one integrated site.
In spring, strong winds carry fine Asian dust from the Chinese mainland, prompting many residents to wear masks, so dust protection and cleaning matter for equipment used outdoors.
Seosan is the west coast transport hub where the Seohaean and Daejeon-Dangjin Expressways and National Highways 29, 32, 38 and 45 meet, which helps trucking and equipment delivery.
The summer monsoon lasts about three weeks in June or July with strong winds and heavy rain, and mild typhoons can affect the area in summer, so outdoor work is often rescheduled.
“Explosion proof” is the phrase most buyers use for equipment that may be taken into a classified hazardous area. Strictly, it covers several protection concepts: a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) contains an internal explosion, while intrinsic safety (Ex i) limits electrical energy so that an ignition cannot start. Phones are normally intrinsically safe, because a flameproof handset would be too heavy to carry all shift.
The IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety, with a marking target of Ex ib IIC T4, and is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. It is pre-launch, certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
In Daesan. In a cracker or refinery, explosion-proof is everyday shorthand. Flameproof Ex d protects fixed equipment, while a handheld phone around process units relies on intrinsic safety. The IS-04Z1 is designed on that basis. Certification is in progress, and the operator's rules still decide where a phone may be used.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Daesan. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
It is intrinsically safe (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), which is the usual way to make a phone for hazardous areas. It is not a flameproof (Ex d) design, and certification is still in progress.
Likely candidates are naphtha cracker and petrochemical units, refinery process units, tank farms, hydrogen handling. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Daesan.
Each plant sets its own rules for portable electronics and controls entry with permits and inductions. Typically only devices with the certification the operator specifies are allowed in classified areas, so confirm the requirement with the plant's safety department first.
A transport hub location helps, since expressways link it to Seoul and Daejeon, so replacements can usually arrive within a day or two. Confirm lead times with your supplier and keep spare batteries and chargers on site for continuous operations.
Daesan now has H&L Advanced, a merged petrochemical business owned half each by HD Hyundai Oilbank and Lotte Chemical, alongside the refinery operator HD Hyundai Oilbank. Procurement routes may still be changing. Confirm requirements with the site operator before sending documents.
