Daesan is a petrochemical complex in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, on the Yellow Sea coast. The Daesan refining and petrochemical platform is a 50/50 joint venture between Hanwha and TotalEnergies, commissioned in 1991 and covering about 3.3 million square metres, making fuels and polymers on one integrated site. Distribution partners for Daesan are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Daesan has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

HD Hyundai Oilbank and Lotte Chemical each hold 50% and each contributed 600 billion won.
A hydrogen shipment centre began operating at the Daesan plant in November 2025.
HD Hyundai Chemical is owned 60% by HD Hyundai Oilbank and 40% by Lotte Chemical, and in late 2025 the partners agreed to consolidate their Daesan naphtha crackers, subject to ministry approval.
Seosan had a population of roughly 175,000 in the 2017 census, which sets the scale of the local labour pool beside the coastal industrial area.
Daesan lies within Seosan city on the Yellow Sea coast of South Chungcheong Province, about 125 km south of Seoul and 34 km north-west of Naepo New Town.
In spring, strong winds carry fine Asian dust from the Chinese mainland, prompting many residents to wear masks, so dust protection and cleaning matter for equipment used outdoors.
ATEX is the European legal framework for equipment used in explosive atmospheres (Directive 2014/34/EU). IECEx is the international certification scheme built on the IEC 60079 standards. Buyers outside Europe often ask for both: an IECEx certificate is the technical evidence most national regimes build on, while ATEX is the legal route into the European market.
For the IS-04Z1 both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and neither certificate has been issued. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4: equipment Group II (surface industry), Category 2 (Zone 1 gas), protection concept ib (intrinsic safety), gas group IIC and temperature class T4.
In Daesan. A procurement reviewer at Daesan would expect ATEX and IECEx evidence for a handheld used in the naphtha cracker, refinery units, tank farms or hydrogen handling, since licensors and turnaround contractors work internationally. The IS-04Z1 certification is in progress, so only a datasheet is available. The merged operator decides what it accepts.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Daesan yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Not yet. Both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and no certificate has been issued. Any listing that says otherwise is wrong.
Likely candidates are naphtha cracker and petrochemical units, refinery process units, tank farms, hydrogen handling. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Daesan.
Each plant sets its own rules for portable electronics and controls entry with permits and inductions. Typically only devices with the certification the operator specifies are allowed in classified areas, so confirm the requirement with the plant's safety department first.
A transport hub location helps, since expressways link it to Seoul and Daejeon, so replacements can usually arrive within a day or two. Confirm lead times with your supplier and keep spare batteries and chargers on site for continuous operations.
Daesan now has H&L Advanced, a merged petrochemical business owned half each by HD Hyundai Oilbank and Lotte Chemical, alongside the refinery operator HD Hyundai Oilbank. Procurement routes may still be changing. Confirm requirements with the site operator before sending documents.
