Seatrium yards
Seatrium lists Singapore yards at Admiralty, Benoi, Pioneer, Tuas and Tuas Boulevard, with headquarters at 80 Tuas South Boulevard.
Seatrium's Singapore yards include Admiralty, Benoi, Pioneer, Tuas and Tuas Boulevard, plus the offshore-focused Crescent and Pandan yards, so contractors may work at several sites in one project. Repair, conversion and newbuild work on tanks, cargo spaces and paint areas creates Zone 1 conditions. This page explains what to look for in an Ex-proof smartphone for Keppel Shipyard (now Seatrium yards), Singapore, and where the IS-04Z1 stands against that list today.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for Keppel Shipyard (now Seatrium yards), Singapore: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Keppel Shipyard. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of the site and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
Seatrium lists Singapore yards at Admiralty, Benoi, Pioneer, Tuas and Tuas Boulevard, with headquarters at 80 Tuas South Boulevard.
Seatrium describes itself as formed from the 2023 merger of Sembcorp Marine and Keppel Offshore & Marine, so older descriptions of Keppel-run yards are out of date.
Keppel privatised its offshore and marine business in 2001, and in 2002 combined Keppel Shipyard with Keppel FELS and Keppel Singmarine to form the Keppel Offshore and Marine group.
Seatrium, formed in 2023, groups its work into oil and gas newbuilds and conversions, renewables and new energies, specialised shipbuilding, and repairs and upgrades.
Repair and upgrade scope at the Singapore yards covers gas carriers (LNG and LPG), floating production units, jack-ups and semi-submersibles, and jumboisation or dejumboisation, each with different tank and gas-freeing routines.
Singapore has an equatorial climate with steady heat, high humidity and frequent afternoon rain, so outdoor yard work exposes handheld equipment to moisture and sun throughout the year.
“Ex-proof” is shorthand for equipment carrying an explosion-protection marking (the Ex mark) that matches the area it enters. The marking states the protection concept, gas or dust group and temperature class, and it must be backed by a certificate issued by a recognised body, so a phone described as Ex-proof should come with a certificate number you can check.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to carry the marking II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. That is a target: certification is in progress, no certificate has been issued, and SAMS will publish the certificate numbers when they exist.
In Keppel Shipyard (now Seatrium yards), Singapore. Vessel tanks, paint and solvent areas and FPSO conversion work involve solvent vapour and fuel residues, so a marking check should read the gas group and temperature class from the vessel's gas-free or hazard assessment. The IS-04Z1 target marking is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4, still a target.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. It becomes a marking only when the certificate is issued; until then it is a design target.
Likely candidates are vessel tank and cargo spaces, offshore unit conversion, paint and solvent areas, dry dock work. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
Conversion projects involve large process and tank systems that become classified areas when commissioned, while repair work is more tank-by-tank and short term. Expect tighter control of electronics on conversion hulls close to hydrocarbon systems. The vessel owner and yard HSE team set the rules for each project.
Keppel's offshore and marine yards are now part of Seatrium, formed in 2023 from Sembcorp Marine and Keppel Offshore and Marine. Former Keppel yard sites in Singapore are now listed under Seatrium, so use that name when registering for contractor access or supplier approval.
No. Seatrium was formed in 2023 and Keppel's yards now operate under it, and the Gul yard was sold to ST Engineering. Use current names when contacting yards. Details of individual Seatrium yards were not verified, so ask the company which yard serves your project.
