Export refinery
More than 80 per cent of production is reported as exported to the United States.
Irving Oil's Saint John refinery is Canada's largest, able to process more than 320,000 barrels of crude per day. Crude arrives by supertanker at the Canaport deep-water terminal, and process units and storage contain classified areas. A rugged mobile phone distributor in Saint John, New Brunswick would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.

Canaport was commissioned in 1970 and was the first deep-water crude terminal in the western hemisphere able to receive supertankers.
Irving Oil also operates Ireland's only refinery at Whitegate, County Cork, and its home office in Uptown Saint John opened officially in 2019, so supplier relations run through Saint John.
The Bay of Fundy never fully freezes, which moderates winters, but the January average is still about minus 8 degrees Celsius and rain and snow total roughly 1,295 mm a year, so outdoor equipment faces cold, wet conditions.
The Canaport LNG regasification terminal was permitted for an initial 1 billion cubic feet per day and was set up by Irving Oil and Repsol to serve Atlantic Canada and the US Northeast.
Irving Oil moves much of its product by tanker to regional terminals at ports in Atlantic Canada, Quebec and New England, an area it treats as under-served by pipelines.
A rugged phone is built to survive water, dust, drops and rough handling, usually rated by an IP code and a drop specification. Ruggedness is an environmental property: it says nothing about whether a phone may be used where flammable gas or dust is present. That is decided by explosion-protection certification and marking.
The IS-04Z1 combines both: an IP68 sealed rugged build and a design for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4). The explosion-protection certificates are in progress and none has been issued.
In Saint John, New Brunswick. The Bay of Fundy coast is damp and foggy, so ingress protection and corrosion resistance are useful at a coastal site. IP68 helps with water and dust but is not explosion protection and does not remove the need to check salt-air exposure. Ask for the datasheet's environmental details.
A distributor for Saint John, New Brunswick would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
It is designed to IP68 sealing, with glove-friendly controls. Ruggedness is not explosion protection: that depends on the certificates, which are in progress.

Process units, tank farms, loading and marine terminal areas commonly have Zone 1 or 2 gas areas. The refinery's classification drawings define gas group and temperature class, so request them before specifying handheld devices.
Canaport is a crude oil receiving terminal with a single-point mooring and an LNG terminal near Saint John. Marine and tank areas bring flammable vapour risks, so confirm the terminal's classification and device rules with the operator.
Irving Oil, as operator, decides which equipment is permitted in each area, normally through its HSE or electrical authority. Ship and tanker crews may have their own requirements too. Ask the refinery for its zone data and approval process, and do not assume a manufacturer certificate alone will be enough.
