ADNOC: industry on the ground
ADNOC Gas Processing, established in 1975 as GASCO, runs the largest gas processing complex in Abu Dhabi, with 26 processing trains and over 3,000 kilometres of pipeline.
ADNOC is the Abu Dhabi state-owned energy group, with subsidiaries across upstream, midstream and downstream activities including refining, gas processing and petrochemicals. A joint venture between ADNOC (60 per cent) and ADQ (40 per cent) was launched in 2020 to invest in chemicals projects in the planned Ruwais Derivatives Park. This page sets out how an intrinsically safe smartphone supply route to ADNOC will work for the IS-04Z1, and what is and is not available before launch.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An intrinsically safe smartphone for ADNOC cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in United Arab Emirates. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of its operations and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
ADNOC's website links suppliers to the ADNOC Supplier Hub, which has a supplier registration service and an In-Country Value (ICV) programme section; the page content could not be read in full, so confirm current requirements with the relevant group company. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.

ADNOC LNG processes and loads liquefied gas at Das Island, with exports going mainly to East Asia and especially Japan, so jetties and island logistics are part of the operation.
ADNOC Refining operates the Ruwais and Abu Dhabi refineries, and a 10 billion dollar expansion of the Ruwais refinery completed in 2015 doubled its capacity.
In May 2026 ADNOC announced it would accelerate its West-East Pipeline project, doubling oil export capacity through the port of Fujairah, with the expanded line expected to operate by 2027.
Intrinsic safety limits the electrical and thermal energy in a circuit so that neither a spark nor a hot surface can ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even when a fault occurs. The ib level, used for Zone 1, tolerates one fault. It is the usual way to make a handheld device that a worker carries continuously through a hazardous area.
The IS-04Z1 is designed on this principle for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4). Intrinsic safety is a design basis, not a certificate: certification is in progress and none has been issued yet.
In ADNOC. Rounds across onshore and offshore fields, Das Island LNG processing and Ruwais refining involve large sites and island or offshore transport. A handheld designed for intrinsic safety could capture readings, photos and calls in classified spots if its certificate permits. Permit regimes belong to the relevant ADNOC group company.
Supply of the IS-04Z1 to ADNOC starts only after certification, through authorised distributors. Until then a buyer can request the datasheet and the written certification schedule, and arrange a safe-area evaluation unit, which puts the site on the list for the right local channel at launch.
The technical specification, marking target and conditions of use, sent by email.
Which certificates are in progress, in what order, and what is still to be confirmed.
Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.
Tell us the site, zone, gas group and quantity so the right authorised distributor can contact you.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
The circuits are designed to limit energy so a spark or hot surface cannot ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even with one fault (level ib, Zone 1). Certification of that design is in progress.

Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Das Island and offshore platforms involve marine transfer, salt air, high humidity and strong heat, plus controlled access by boat or helicopter. Check corrosion resistance, ingress protection and temperature range, and ask the operator about transfer rules and any restrictions on batteries or devices.
Typically gas processing trains, LNG and NGL units, refinery process areas, petrochemical plants and offshore platforms. Each ADNOC group company classifies its own facilities, so request the hazardous-area drawing, gas group and temperature class from the specific operating company before choosing equipment.
The sheet says suppliers are directed to ADNOC's supplier registration (the ADNOC Commercial Directory, now under its Supplier Hub) for Group tenders, and an In-Country Value certificate is generally required, per third-party guides. Confirm with the relevant group company. The IS-04Z1 has no certificate.
